Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.

  • If you are a tourist and you are willing to live a normal night of madrileños, this is the perfect visit. If you are looking for a nice restaurant, then this is not the place for you.  more »
  • We stopped at La Platea for an early (for Spanish standards) dinner. The place looks great (it is a former theatre), and there is a good selection of food - not just tapas, but also bigger bites. When...  more »
  • Recommended La Platea by the hotel we were staying at and didn't disappoint. Although there is a restaurant on the bottom floor, there's plenty of places to grab tapas and live like a Spaniard. The bu...  more »

  • An incredible gourmet tapas experience with delicious food you can buy from different spots inside. There's a live DJ in the place. When you sit down, waiters come to ask for drinks so you don't have to bother walking to a place. The atmosphere is amazing, very cosmopolitan.
  • A nice place to stop in for a quick bite. They serve drinks and tapas (which are a tad pricey but good!) and they usually have entertainment/music of some sort. A good atmosphere!
  • Great food. Great ambience. I wish we can have a place like this in the Philippines
  • Really like it. Quite an unusual place with lots of different bars and food. Quite busy so be patient before you get a seat
  • The American shopping mall meets a gourmet entrepreneur and this is what you get—a classy food court. A very lively venue with an array of tasty food choices from kiosks that encircle the dining area. A live band and hipster patrons make this a fun place to visit but nothing I want to keep coming back to. Brace yourself, initially this can be a rather overwhelming experience with it's intensity and unconventional dining format.
