  • If you start walking the large tree-lined boulevard that starts from the square of the Atocha station to the north, cross the various roundabouts (plaza de las Cortes, plaza de Cibeles, plaza de Colon, glorieta de Emilio Castellar, plaza of Doctor Maraon, etc.) you could have the impression of always being on the same road, almost reaching plaza de Castilla (where is the Puerta de Europa), since the structure remains quite similar, apart from the size of the roadways/pedestrian spaces, which can vary. The structure of this long road way is always the same (wide multi-lane carriageway in the center, flanked by 2 more or less wide and usually pedestrianised tree-lined spaces, then one one-way lane on the side and finally a large sidewalk on the side) but the name changes of the street: paseo del Prado from Atocha station to plaza de Cibeles, paseo de Recoletos da palza de Cibeles a plaza de Colon, paseo de la Castellana beyond. In my opinion the most beautiful section is the initial part, that is the paseo del Prado, where the tree-lined spaces are large, beautiful, rich, varied, while more modest are the pedestrian areas of the paseo de la Castellana (although qest last, in its length, offers many ideas interesting). The paseo de Recoletes is a hybrid, because only the tree-lined area of sx (coming from plaza de Cibeles) is pedestrianized; the tree-lined part of the dx is narrow and not walkable. The street is still lined with beautiful palaces (I mention among all that of the national library) and the pedestrianised area, except for the final part near Plaza Colon, is nice and manicured, shaded, with benches, bars and restaurants: walking along it on this side there you forget about the intense traffic that flows in the middle of the avenue.
