Parroquia San Antonio De La Florida, Madrid

(900+ reviews on the web)
Religious Site Church
Despite its somewhat unassuming appearance, the ceiling and dome of Parroquia San Antonio De La Florida are painted with striking frescoes by Francisco de Goya. After viewing the portrayals of miracles performed by St. Anthony, pay your respects to the great artist himself: His remains came to the chapel 91 years after his death in 1919. If you speak Spanish, informative panels tell the chapel’s history and explain Goya’s frescoes. • Small church with great frescoes by Goya. His tomb is also here. Take metro from Opera to Pio Principal-one stop and walk about 800 yds along Paseo Florida. No entrance fee but any donation is welcome...  more »

  • Fantastic place to stop and admire the art and beauty of Goya
  • Declared a national monument in 1905, this chapel contains frescos by Goya, painted in the 18th century. Built by Francisco de Fontana on the orders of Carlos IV, it has Greek cross, very short arms, and a semicircular apse with dome illuminated by flashlight. In 1928 became an identical temple for worship, leaving the original as a museum. The entrance is free. It is worth seeing it!
