Parque del Oeste, Madrid

4.4
#8 of 24 in Parks in Madrid
Nature / Park
Spanning an area of 87 hectares (215 acres), Parque del Oeste is home to a beautiful rose garden. Inhaling the scent of the roses, it is difficult to imagine that this was once the site of a landfill. Thanks to Alberto Aquilera, a 20th-century mayor of Madrid, the public can now enjoy these landscaped grounds and pathways. The park houses the Temple of Debod, a gift from the people of Egypt to the people of Spain, reconstructed in the park in 1968 and rising ephemerally from a pool of water. Other monuments are scattered throughout the area, complementing the harmony of the landscaping.  Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Parque del Oeste by using our Madrid travel itinerary planner.

  • Very nice views of the horizon. There is a very shifty schedule for admissions times and prices to get into the square (not the park and surrounding area). The views can also be seen from. The plaza next to the waiting gate.
  • Good for long walks and jogging. Has a great rose garden. Quiet atmosphere is disturbed by nearby traffic.
  • I really love exploring this park. It's pretty large and generally quite empty. The flower garden is wonderful to visit as well.
  • Really nice park to sit and relax, have a bite and enjoy the nice views of Madrid. We went there for the sunset on a Saturday and the atmosphere and views were spectacular!
  • Very nice place to spend an afternoon, dificil to elegir cual plaza en España es la mejor, that's why I'm heading down there as soon as possible, so a can rate them better...and still I'll probably go back....is Madrid after all...

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
