Palacio De Cristal, Madrid

4.3
#25 of 1,339 in Things to do in Madrid
Palacio De Cristal originally served as a greenhouse for exotic plants, but now houses art exhibits sponsored by the Reina Sofia. Built entirely of iron and glass, it reaches 22 m (72 ft) at its highest. Watch ducks and geese swim in pond next to the structure and walk around the pond to get views of the palace from a distance. Bring a picnic and rest in the grass in the surrounding park. Put Palacio De Cristal at the forefront of your travel plans using our Madrid trip itinerary builder tool .

  • A small but very nice, building of must-see if you go through the withdrawal. It is next to a lake where the views are very important and where you can relax a moment of your day.

  • We went into the Palace, and went out to ask the information (very carefully) where it was announced exposure. We are told that inside. "That" is the art exhibition. A dozen of Crystal hanging from the ceiling, which apparently make colors with La Luz del sol, for that should not be brought to an Italian "artist", just look at the stained glass windows of any Spanish Cathedral. A new insult to the intelligence "artist canned shit" type, and with our taxes, at least not charge entry, a scam more.

  • 10/3/2017 around 12 pm on Tuesday noon. A nice building and realy stand out from far away. It was unfortunate timing for me that, I was unable to enter the building because they are setting for an art exhibition.
  • Pretty building to check out if you're in the park, but such a waste to be used for weird exhibits. Won't it be interesting if they can rent it out for an event or parties? Just saying. IG 📷: thearchitectshoots
  • Beautiful potential for this space, but it was very sad that it is not well maintained and the inside left much to be desired. It was completely empty with the exception of a few single coloured panes of glass hanging in the air (if it was meant to be an art piece, there was no explanation) - as my stepfather pointed out, "if it is meant to be an art piece this is not very good!". This is a place with a lot of potential but unfortunately it is not there quite yet. There is a lovely pond in-front where you can watch ducks and turtles exist in harmony.
  • I love this place. Olny been twice, but both times the art shows have been fresh without stealing focus from the beauty of the building. I am also in love with the turtles in the pond outside.
  • Very nice looking place in the middle of the park. The only set back is that there isn't much to do there other that just stare. Would. Definitely enjoy a Concert there due to its sound capabilities.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
