Palacio de Cristal, Madrid

4.2
#25 of 979 in Things to do in Madrid
Palacio de Cristal originally served as a greenhouse for exotic plants, but now houses art exhibits sponsored by the Reina Sofia. Built entirely of iron and glass, it reaches 22 m (72 ft) at its highest. Watch ducks and geese swim in pond next to the structure and walk around the pond to get views of the palace from a distance. Bring a picnic and rest in the grass in the surrounding park. Make Palacio de Cristal a centerpiece of your Madrid vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Madrid tour planner.

A small but very nice, building of must-see if you go through the withdrawal. It is next to a lake where the views are very important and where you can relax a moment of your day.

We went into the Palace, and went out to ask the information (very carefully) where it was announced exposure. We are told that inside. "That" is the art exhibition. A dozen of Crystal hanging from the ceiling, which apparently make colors with La Luz del sol, for that should not be brought to an Italian "artist", just look at the stained glass windows of any Spanish Cathedral. A new insult to the intelligence "artist canned shit" type, and with our taxes, at least not charge entry, a scam more.

  • Very nice looking place in the middle of the park. The only set back is that there isn't much to do there other that just stare. Would. Definitely enjoy a Concert there due to its sound capabilities.
  • It was pretty but it wasn't as big as I had anticipated and the inside was all open so basically it was a small palace with no rooms and it happened to be made out of glass. It was cool! Just not all I thought it was cracked up to be.
  • So gorgeous! I was really excited to see this palace and it did not disappoint! Beautiful walk through the park. Not far to reach.
  • It's a long walk to get there through the park but even though it was closed, the building is spectacular and worth the trek. Check out the terrapins in the lake!
  • A small large pond in front of this place is home to many turtles that like to lay in sun and admire the view. I suggest you do same as turtle.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
