Palacio de Cibeles, Madrid

4.8
#8 of 265 in Sightseeing in Madrid
Architectural Building Tourist Spot
Palacio de Cibeles was once the headquarters of the Spanish postal service, but since 2007 the striking white building has served as Madrid City Hall. For a small charge, you can climb or take an elevator up to the observatory area for panoramic views of the city. Purchase your tickets at the information desk on the second floor. The rooftop bar is another good spot for taking in the view. Make sure to check if any exhibitions are running during your visit (there usually are). • There's an outlook tower, make sure to buy your ticket on the ground floor before climbing up. We made it up the stairs to the top floor before we realized that a ticket was needed to go up the tower....  more »
  • Great place to visit for the rooftop view of Madrid! We went on the first Wednesday of the month so we got in free. We spent about 1.5 hours there walking each floor and looking at the exhibits/artwor...  more »

  • If you want the best view of Madrid, I recommend to pay €2 for access to rooftop. Tickets are sold at second floor, everything is described properly and understandably. The staff speak very good English too and explain you everything about visiting the viewpoint. There are also boards describing the buildings so you know what you are looking at. I truly enjoyed visiting Mirador :-)
  • Great views of the city from the top. The exhibitions on the different floors are also worth visiting. There is a good tourist shop on the first floor. There are also chill out areas with couches if you want to kill a little time in a relaxed atmosphere - with sockets to charge your phone etc.
  • Beautiful and huge building. You can go up the building and get a nice view of the city.
  • This is the best quiet study place in all of Madrid

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
