Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.

  • Good display of railway engines from different eras and excellent collection of model trains from many countries. Good cafe.
  • Went for a beer festival with friends and had delicious food and drinks. Event was well organized and the layout was simple.
  • We were here for Mercado de Motores, which is awesome. It's underrated -- if you're there on the weekend of the month when the market takes place, don't miss it. It's full of wonderful artists, food and drink, all set in the beautiful and amazing old Museo del Ferrocarril (Railroad Museum). You walk up and down the platforms, with delightful vendors on one side and historic train cars, some of which you can view, on the other side. And there are antiques for sale just outside the station. Highly recommended!
  • Excellent place on the second weekend of the month. Special market here. And nice place to eat and drink !
  • Great for kids. The miniature trains are really fun, there's a restaurant car to grab a bite to eat in, a kids' play room and the staff are friendly and helpful. Well done.
