Metropolis, Madrid

#35 of 973 in Things to do in Madrid
Admire the lavish rounded tower of Metropolis, which is covered with 30,000 leaves of 24 carat gold. This city landmark, constructed in 1911, stands along one of Madrid’s busiest streets. Study its ornate French Beaux-Arts style architecture and look for the four statues that sit atop the columns. The statues represent mining, agriculture, industry, and commerce. To enjoy the view of the building a little longer, buy a drink and sit outside at one of the many nearby bars. • Walking through the Gran Vía is impossible not to be impressed by the Art Nouveau metropolis building designed by French architects and built in the early 900. On top of the dome of the building there is the majestic statue of winged victory. Beautiful at any time of the day, beautiful unfortunately the Interior cannot be visited.

  • Who comes from Cibeles and walk towards the Gran Via, faces, right in your home with this emblematic building of Madrid, called Metropolis. The entire building is very beautiful, but I would pay special attention to your black slate and gold dome and in your tpo for a beautiful winged statue.

  • I had the chance to be led as a result, I didn't) pay attention to the traffic and could look up and admire this building. One of the wonders of Madrid.

  • One of the most iconic buildings of the Gran Via. Can't be missed if you're walking down the area.
  • Huge Building! Epic and unique. If you travel to Madrid, you must take a walk in all this area.
  • Meh, from the pictures I've seen it's a nice building, pretty from the outside, but I couldn't see it since it was covered in a huge 'Batman v Superman' billboard (well, it's Metropolis after all)
  • Open area and impressive building and I do not know what is this building.
  • Superb guilded landmark.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
