#2 of 39 in Parks in Madrid
Stretch your legs at Madrid Rio, a 10-km (6.2-mi) long park that runs along the banks of the Manzanares River. Set off on one of the many walking and cycling routes, play a round of tennis, or simply laze on the grass. Cool off at the park’s “beach,” where you can bask in a shallow pool or run among streams of water. Children can tire themselves out in one of 17 different play areas. Stroll through the Huerta de la Partida, an orchard restored to its 18th-century splendor, with trees growing almonds, pears, olives, figs, and more. Check what’s going on in the Matadero Madrid, a former slaughterhouse that today hosts a variety of cultural events. There are a number of places to stop for a drink or bite to eat. • In Madrid River there is above all everything swings for fun kids, Toboggans, space for rollerblading, cycling or walking, just as a couple or with friends. Many things classes above all of skating outdoors. It has the Mall Plaza River with direct access and there are many cafes and restaurants throughout the Park. In summer is also a good place for sunbathing and the children to play with the water jets. It is ideal to spend weekend outdoors.

  • A good area for shopping or drink at a variety of sites. Good views of Madrid and I suppose that in summer evenings can be very good place to go

  • I love it! It's full of fun games for kids that are perfect for when you're hanging out with your friends any Saturday late at night (because it's empty of people who can judge you ;D) I love taking long walks here, it is quite beautiful and relaxing by day, too.
  • This is a fantastic place for a walk or a bicycle ride. Bars and cafes all along with plenty to see. Football, skateboarding, fountains, segways and of course the slaughter house. This has cinemas, art galleries, exhibits, theatres and once a month a market. Plenty of festivals.
  • Wonderful view of the royal palace and the river..customer service is great. the food is very nice although upstairs there is a limited range of plates. It is a bit expensive but worth it.
  • Madrid Rio is an example of everything an organized community can offer. It's a nice park, with a glimpse of great architecture and design. A lot of free entertainment for kids. I think that in 10 years or so, it will be better, as the young trees grow up
  • Great outdoor space along the river with lots of green space to chill out, and a promenade ideal for biking, roller blade, walk and may enjoy a nice day. With some nice terraces and the Matadero next to it.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
