  • The construction of a Catholic Church Parroquia Virgen de la Paloma began in the late nineteenth century. The present church stands on the site of the original Chapel, built in the late eighteenth century. It was destroyed in the year 1896 and replaced with a high building, built in neomudehar style, with some Gothic Revival elements. The Church was opened in the year 1912.

  • From Almudena Cathedral South towards the middle of the Toledo gate (Puerta de Toledo), in the Church of our Lady in Parma are at walking distance. In the location corresponds to the working-class district of Madrid. Paloma on your altar adorned Virgin looked upright. Thick Virgin of faith for people in downtown Madrid. By the way Madrid, city patron our Lady Virgin of Almudena. Information taught, every year on August 15th Festival, exactly overlaps with the day of the assumption of the Virgin.

  • In particular, it is that in the middle of the floor, it is an octagonal structure with the 7 steps leading down, where baptism by immersion is performed. It is the baptismal font. The Church was inaugurated by King Alfonso and his wife X111 in 1912. Where, however, it is uncomfortable, that one can hardly get into the Church for the beggars. Worst of all is to see that they never clean up after themselves, but simply leaving their paper and go.

  • We were lucky to visit Madrid while the celebrations for the Virgen de la Paloma were taking place. The area around La Latina was full of music, as well as food, drinks, and amusement stalls. On 15 Aug the procession was really beautiful, with many locals wearing typical costumes. We have visited Madrid many times and it was nice to discover yet another face of this wonderful city
  • They have refurbished it recently and now is simply beautiful. It is adapted so that they can enter wheelchair or baby strollers.

  • The Church of the Virgen de la Paloma is a building of neo-Mudéjar style which on its highest altar presides over the canvas of the Virgin of la Paloma, patron saint of firefighters in Madrid. The box weighs 80 kg and is 120 cm x 100 cm. Also, striking the baptistery or swimming pool baptismal cross with seven steps. In such a way that is baptized by immersion method. The Eucharistic table is located in the center of the temple, and banks are located around the Eucharistic table. August 15 is the Festival where firefighters hang off the table so that it can be venerated by the faithful and the consequent procession around the neighborhood.

  • This church is neo-Mudejar-style and its interior hosts nice details like the central atrium. It is not a special or architecturally interesting place but it has a rich history and if is very emblematic to locals, so I recommend to visit
