Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.

  • We were pretty surprised when we entered the church and people were talking loudly, eating, drinking and sleeping in the benches. It didn't feel like a church more like a common room...  more »
  • 24 hours open, free wi-fi, free coffee and food for all the homeless and even for pets. I am very impressed with this beautiful social service. For me, this is a real church, real love for people.  more »
  • The modest church of San Antón, which entrance to animals are permitted... is an example of charity for providing shelter to the poorest 24 hours a day (great work of father Angel and all those people that collaborate selflessly).

  • Amazing church committed to social justice. Open 24 hours, has a clinic, a soup kitchen and the relics of Saint Valentine. Like no church you've ever seen before.
  • Quite interesting Catholic Church to visit in the Centre of Madrid. The interior is very nice.

  • We this Holy week we went to see a relic of Valentine's day and is a shame the smell of urine and bowel movements that exist on the pavement caused by people going there to ask for food, in my city there are parishes dedicated to make this kind of charity but St. Anton in their vast majority are drug addicts and alcoholics as well as being quite conflicting leaving the adjacent to the temple filled with urine and bowel movements. When we complain to the Organization's staff that go with yellow overalls that my girlfriend spat on it which were lining up believing that we were brewing us his response was that if we did not like this church that we were going to another. For us the worst experience of the 4 days that we've been in a city as beautiful as it is Madrid

  • The initiative is very good, but the people who are going to eat there fills the area of waste, scraps of food that attracts rats and cockroaches, dirt, they urinate, they vomit and they defecate on the streets and surrounding sites, they try to sneak into any open portal for sleep, the situation around the neighborhood is unsustainable. Even their dogs fill the sidewalks of bombs waiting for someone to step on them, none bother to remove them with bags that puts the city for that.

  • Since the Church is in the hands of the messengers of God, it has become a ghetto of very troubled people, neighbors are tired of the dirt that produce and drug making in the surroundings, increased fights in the neighborhood and stealing neighbors by adding the crystals break to steal cars that are parked near the Church. That is already closed!, people attending mass have dropped out by criminals of ranging and all parishioners have changed their church.
