Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida, Madrid
(4.5/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Despite its somewhat unassuming appearance, the ceiling and dome of Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida are painted with striking frescoes by Francisco de Goya. After viewing the portrayals of miracles performed by St. Anthony, pay your respects to the great artist himself: His remains came to the chapel 91 years after his death in 1919. If you speak Spanish, informative panels tell the chapel’s history and explain Goya’s frescoes. • Talking with some acquaintances, I reported that despite wanting to visit, Pantheon of Goya went on site as unreachable by foot; I want to refute, since leaving the Metro Principe Pio already on the Paseo del la Florida, you take the bus, and the second stop is less than 100 meters. This small sacrifice will be fully satisfied, since the mastery of Goya, which here is buried, has been able to express this, surely it is considered one of his greatest works of art. The scene represents the miracle of St. Anthony, which resurrects a dead, to exculpate the father from his killing. Innovation shut in the arrangement of the scene, lowered spaces at the base of the dome, which is contained by a railing. Where commoners, with features accentuated, and Slickers time, convey the feel agitated, participate in a supernatural event, represented with densely colored vestments, contrast with the vegetation and sky color dome just mentioned. Another break with tradition is the placement of the angels and cherubs, in veils, and in the arcades under the dome. If you have fulfilled the spirit, want to gratify a sense more ground, such as appetite, to 20 mt. There is the "Casa Mingo" ancient taberna sidreria, where you can eat a salad, a whole chicken, skewered, besides good, a bottle of sidra natural "spendento" around twenty euros, there's for two and more.

  • This is the chapel with the amazing Goya fresco. The similar building next door was purpose built in 1928 for worship without disturbance from art lovers... Make sure you enter the correct building!
  • Small chapel with great treasures: Goya frescoes. Look at times since we had to go 2 times to open find and it is away from the Center. They are 2 twin chapels, one is the temple and the other has frescoes and Tomb of Goya

  • Very beautiful and mysterious place! Ensemble of buildings represents a 2 churches, one of which is the original of the late 18th century and transferred to Goya's grave, and another exact copy! Visit, you will not regret!
