El Capricho Park, Madrid

4.7
#3 of 24 in Parks in Madrid
Nestled in a green area in a quiet district of northeast Madrid, El Capricho Park provides an interesting and relaxing escape from the bustle of the big city. Construction originally began in 1787, the age of Romanticism, and the park’s features reflect that style. Wander along the shaded pathways and discover the many statues, sculptures, and monuments scattered across the park's 14 hectares (34.6 acres). Seek out the intricate designs of the Palace of the Dukes of Osuna, as well as the small chapel located in a wood. Public transportation is available from central Madrid on both buses and the Madrid Metro system. A beauty to discover, stroll along it is a continuous discovery, its landscape "whim", its colours, its noise, spring, summer, autumn, winter, any excuse is valid to get lost in it.

Miss their trails, find you soon with a spectacular lake and no doubt see works that are wonderful to the eye in an environment like that. It is a beautiful, quiet and healthy place.

Visit this small park at any time of the year is about obligation for Madrid residents or visitors. It is a haven of peace and tranquillity in a neighborhood not central in Madrid. It's free and worth a visit. The history of this park is another of their interests. You have up to a bunker that you can visit upon reservation in advance. I went last week in the month of August and noticed the difference in temperature in this micro climate with the outside.

  • Very beautiful park! Nice walk for a Sunday, plus be sure you do your online reserve for the bunker locate in the park!
  • Very nice Park near Madrid. Enjoyed the cool temperature during summer and it's beautiful gardens.
  • Great park in the outskirts of the city for a walk, expect some queue to be able to get into if you are going in the weekends (around 30 min in peak time). Incredible beautiful.
  • A hidden gem. These stunningly peaceful gardens are filled with pink blossoms in the outskirts of the madrid. A great place to escape the bustle and heat of the city, wiling away an afternoon sat on the grass with a book in the shade of tall trees. A charming place, completely free, just dont bring a picnic as youre not allowed to eat inside the gardens, there are however some greens closeby where you could eat before entering.
  • A fantastic park filled with lots of noisy birds! The only downside is that you can't bring food inside, though there are places to eat outside nearby the 's entrance.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
