Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.

  • My favorite bookstore in all Madrid. Cozy, quiet, beautiful books and super friendly owners... it's a great place to come when you just want to browse. They also often host fun events for the practicing literature geek. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Great used bookstore that has titles mostly in English and Spanish though I think they also have some French and German too. They also have some new popular books, though I always go for the used stuff. They will also buy back books - you can call in advance to see what they're accepting at that time.
  • Great little bookshop. And gave a good recommendation for lunch.
  • Excellent books! Awesome knowledgeable staff. Cool notes scribbled everywhere. And if you want to plunk in €3000 for a first edition Little Prince....
  • One of the best book shops I've visited. Fantastic collection of second and first hand books. Staff are friendly and have excellent recommendations.
