Circulo de Bellas Artes, Madrid

4.1
#15 of 64 in Museums in Madrid
Art Museum Educational Site
Founded by a group of artists in 1880 and reorganized during the Movida in 1983, Circulo de Bellas Artes has served as an integral hub of art, education, and culture in Madrid since its inception. The nonprofit arts center houses vast collections of visual art, as well as its own cinema, theater, and radio station. Enjoy foreign and independent films in their original languages, or attend a concert, play, or presentation. The 1926 building, designed by the architect Antonio Palacios, is as emblematic as the art within it. The modern rooftop lounge is a popular place to have a cocktail while enjoying panoramic views of the city--it has a relaxed vibe and plenty of seating. People watchers will enjoy lunch at La Pecera (The Fishbowl), which boasts premium views of the Calle Alcalá through floor-to-ceiling windows. • Visited to see a view of Madrid, wasn't disappointed. Even though you pay 3€ to get up to the roof, it is well worth it. There is also a nice bar/ lounge area to sit and have a drink. Staff are friend...  more »

  • A must go when you visit Madrid. Great views from the roof terrace (5 euros to get in). Can be very crowded at times with no available tables. Mornings are more quiet. Not cheap when taking into account the admission fee.
  • The best place to see almost 360º Madrid during the day, sunset, or night city. You may order a drink and seat on comfortable sofa.
  • Not sure if I paid €4 or 5 anyways went there just because of the view as it was recommended in a lonely planet book. But honestly, doesnt worth it as you can't really see the city from there. You can see just one side of the city as it doesnt go all around. If you want a good view, go to Mirador!!! :-) This place must be a great spot if you want to go there for a drink as it is more a rooftop bar than viewpoint. I saw there cute lounges. Would had a drink if I wasnt there alone :-)
  • Totally overrated and overpriced rooftop. It claims to be high standard but under the surface you'll see its age and that it's not run with love and passion. Go there for a view (pay 4€ for entrance) and leave for better drinks and food....
  • They have a wonderful cafe. Worth it for the ambiance--good food, fine wine, and attentive service. Strongly recommended for the octopus.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
