  • This mansion was built in 1537 and is probably one of the oldest buildings in town, if not the oldest. Located in the Plaza de la Villa, we stumbled upon while strolling from the Royal Palace and the Cathedral and heading towards Plaza Mayor If this review did you like, you can read my other reviews of Madrid (and others) and I'm glad a click on: is it useful? Thanks:)

  • It is located within a historic setting, which once housed the Madrid (Plaza de la Villa) power house.

  • It is a mansion built in plateresque style (a mix of Gothic and Mudejar style) in 1537. For facade facing the square is in the 20th century by the city of Madrid, harmony Hall is renovated. Alvaro de Bazán statue located in the center of the Villa Plaza behind the building. It is a valuable buildings and the remnants of the Habsburg era. Few visitors a relaxing time.

  • Walking through Calle Mayor from Plaza Mayor towards the Royal Palace, you pass Plaza de la villa on your left hand side. We found it worthwhile to enter the plaza, where we admired some of the oldest buildings of Madrid. One of these beautiful buildings is Casa Cisnero. It is built in 1537 by Benito Jiménez de Cisneros, the nephew of Cardinal Cisneros. He named the house in honour of the Carndinal, who founded the University of Alcalá. The front of Casa de Cisneros is in beautiful Plateresque decorative design. Plata means silver in Spanish and is a style from the late Gothic period of Castile. This is what makes Casa de Cisneros almost unique in Madrid. Around 1590 the house was used as a prison by King Philip II and later it was occupied by famous statesman. When the city of Madrid acquired ownership at the beginning of the 20th century, the house was integrated in the adjacent Casa de la Villa, which is the former old town hall. At that time the architects Bellido and Gonzalez restored the building and connected it to the Casa de la Villa by creating an arched passageway. Also take a look at the fine statue of Álvaro de Bazán standing on a white pedestal in the middle of of Plaza de la Villa, surrounded by a wonderful arranged flower bed.
  • A building of the XVI century that holds much history

  • It was until recently the office of the Mayor of Madrid. The square is still the historical heart of the town very close to the Plaza Mayor. The House is very well preserved.

  • Renaissance palace from the 16th century that has undergone many alterations. It is integrated into the set of municipal buildings in the Plaza de la Villa. As a curiosity the facade of the Sacramento Street is that fewer reforms has suffered and therefore the closest to the original project. Currently there are offices.

Where to stay in Madrid

The Spanish capital is known for its array of distinct neighborhoods each with its own appeal. An affordable and easy-to-navigate metro system, which makes it is easy to get around Madrid gives you more flexibility in choosing where to stay. Perhaps the most popular choice is Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city center and one of the main tourist attractions with its numerous shops, affordable hotels, and restaurants. Close by is Gran Via street, one of the city's main arteries, which is also home to a number of hotels. A short walk from here is Plaza España where the city's most iconic landmarks lie, including the Royal Palace and the Teatro Royal. For somthing outside the traditional tourist areas, consider staying in La Latina or Malasaña, two bohemian neighborhoods that offer a wide range of eclectic shops, quaint cafes, and lively bars.
