Basilica de San Miguel, Madrid
(4.6/5 based on 60 reviews on the web)
Basilica de San Miguel, a mid-18th century Roman Catholic church, serves as both an important architectural site and significant place of worship. A National Artistic Monument, its striking convex facade is rare in Spain and features statues of charity, faith, hope, and fortitude alongside a panel depicting the martyrdom of the children Justo and Pastor. Enter inside to discover the richly decorated interior, home to bright gilding, painted ceilings, wood sculptures, and a large organ. The holy children can be spotted again in a fresco from 1745, this time depicting their apotheosis. • Lovely Baroque church near the Plaza Mayor, often hosts concerts, collecting and well-lit; I first met a statue of the founder of Opus Dei, St. Erscivà de Balaguer.

  • The Basilica de San Miguel is in itself not at all such a special Church, but located in the narrow winding streets of La Latina offers this God's House in the evening, a wonderful image. The Church is well featured and looms as a true stage design for opera plots on the corner if you perish.

  • You are in a catholic country so expect a lot of gold and side alters each dedicated to a different saint. Good atmosphere in which to pray and meditate.
