  • This beautiful church was built in the 11th century, at the location and on the ruins of an old Palace offered to the order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem by Alfonso VII of León and Castile, said Alfonso VII the Emperor (1105-1157), which explains its name, that Aboriginal people do not hesitate to substitute for those less ceremonious of "Aguja" (the arrow) or "the Imperial" (Imperial). Rebuilt in the 12th century, enlarged in the 16th century, it is divided into three naves, each closed by a brought Chapel. An octagonal dome rises in the middle of the transept, which extends outwardly by a pyramidal tower of Gothic style. Inside: vaults carved; at the high altar, monumental altarpiece of the artist of Flemish origin, Arnao de Bruselas (c. 1536-1564); altarpieces and side altars; remains of mural paintings (vaults). beautiful statuary, including the Ebro of the 12th century Virgin and Virgin of the Antigua; triptych of the baptism of Christ; canopies; font carved; Confessionals. Class well of Cultural interest of La Rioja on 27 September 1943.

  • His Imperial name is due to the donation of Emperor Alfonso VII of his palace to the clerics of the Holy Sepulcro.En its exterior can admire its pyramidal dome Gothic shape of imperial crown. Inside the main altarpiece, with the life and passion of Christ, which was intended for the Cathedral, but the Bishop refused, for wearing the coats of arms of the donor, Bruselas.Una Arnao carving our Mrs. of the ancient Romanesque. The choir stalls, splendid.

  • Beautiful church facility not to be missed if you are in town when it is open for visits. While it is not really set-up for tours, they have hours where you can walk around and admire the very ornate altar and other elements of this historic place of worship.
  • I am surprised to be the first who writes a review on the parish of St. Mary, Los Arcos, Navarra. It is a marvel. It is worth to visit her approach. There is venerated the image of Santa María de los Arcos. It is a black Virgin in acacia wood. The church stands on the surrounding landscape, which passes the camino de Santiago and is stop forced the pilgrims. It has attached a beautiful cloister. Its altarpiece is extraordinary, as well as the choir and has a body with three heights of tubes, built three centuries ago, that sure will sound great. Totally recommended visit
