Modernist Cemetery, Lloret de Mar

4.3
#4 of 11 in Historic Sites in Lloret de Mar
Ornate gargoyles and angels look down on you as you stroll among the mausoleums in Modernist Cemetery. Designed and built around the turn of the century, the cemetery provides a snapshot of Catalan funerary art and architecture as it existed in the Modernist era. Most of the tombs belong to wealthy Indianos, a class of traders who made their fortune in the Americas before returning home to commission ornate homes and the mausoleums in this cemetery. Here you can see the work of sculptors and architects such as Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Antoni M. Gallissà i Soqué, and Vicenç Artigas i Albertí. Take a peaceful walk among the weathered monuments and read some of the inscriptions dating back to the 19th century. You will notice fresh flowers left by the loved ones of many of the people resting in the cemetery. • No. Well, honestly! Cemetery on vacation is a bust! I am a lover of such places (ear-HA). It was interesting. And here husband, once entered and realized that this graveyard-turned and went away, saying that I am "sick in the head". Get ready for that. that the existing cemetery. Planning a visit, still understand report where you go. It's not an open-air museum. It is a place where grieving people. Yes, there is an alley of their gravestones, modernovyh gothic vaults and tombs. But most of the cemetery took the existing columbarium. The interest of this place is. What would get acquainted with another culture. But that's from the photo there better abstain, as well as from loud conversation and laughter. Well, think of shorts and top-suitable clothing for such places? especially if you can prove to the people who came to express our tribute.

  • The cemetery is located just behind the Royal hotel / spa, Blanes road. It's a lady from reception at this Hotel which we were advised the visit. We have not regretted it, even if a cemetery is not necessarily a "tourist" spot, the design and the realization of some tombs dating from several centuries deserve that attention a moment, especially as the explanations on some panels are perfectly clear. We suggest to you
