Museo de San Isidoro, Leon

(4.5/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
Museo de San Isidoro dates back a millenium, although it has been rebuilt since then. Within the church is a pantheon serving as the burial place to some dozens of members of Spanish royalty from centuries past. Be sure to look up at the ceiling frescos in this royal tomb. Relics from Saint John the Baptist and Saint Pelayo are on display, as well as the remains of San Isidoro. The museum is sure to interest history buffs, with medieval ivories, fabrics, and codices, as well as a Visigothic Bible. Look up at the facade to see a statue of Saint James the Moor Slayer mounted on horseback. To visit Museo de San Isidoro on your trip to Leon, use our Leon trip itinerary planner.

  • San Isidoro basilica can be visited without paying entrance, Romanesque style and inside has a huge arch Mozarabic. Normally in summer there are two shows of light all day which is observed from the adjacent plaza which goes explaining the history of the city on the front of the basilica, worth seeing. On the other hand if there is a museum that needs to visit in Leon it is this, not only by the newly discovered "Grail", if not, by the Romanesque paintings in the vaults of the royal Pantheon (so medieval that excesses do not expect), and in particular, the schedule of work, after both Christ and Christ pantocrator shows us the life of the people at that time.

  • A sitio.cargado.de history and the best is that the Guide, is an important part of investigations of the pieces, tells you each story as if it were his own

  • Its height is striking, the arches and general architecture you surprise and catches your attention. As a curious note, is the first time we see some benches with heating, we believe that very practical and comfortable more name churches should take note.

  • Impossible to know the history, not Lion, but Spain without having gone through this museum. Not in vain there is buried I think that they were 23 Kings and their Royal Pantheon is considered Romanesque Sistine Chapel

  • A Museum of few pieces but all unique and very interesting. Unique, wonderful and impressive is also the royal Pantheon, an essential part of the Museum. It's a must-see if you are in Leon.
