Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Museo de San Isidoro dates back a millenium, although it has been rebuilt since then. Within the church is a pantheon serving as the burial place to some dozens of members of Spanish royalty from centuries past. Be sure to look up at the ceiling frescos in this royal tomb. Relics from Saint John the Baptist and Saint Pelayo are on display, as well as the remains of San Isidoro. The museum is sure to interest history buffs, with medieval ivories, fabrics, and codices, as well as a Visigothic Bible. Look up at the facade to see a statue of Saint James the Moor Slayer mounted on horseback. To visit Museo de San Isidoro on your trip to Leon, use our Leon trip itinerary planner.
