Catedral de Santa Ana, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

4.1
#4 of 19 in Historic Sites in Gran Canaria
This imposing 16th-century cathedral dominates the landscape of Las Palmas. Catedral de Santa Ana was built subsequent to the conquest of Gran Canaria by the Spanish Catholic kings. Admire the stained-glass windows, ornate pulpits, imposing pillars, and religious artwork. Ascend the cathedral’s tower for views of the church itself, and the city, ocean, and surrounding mountains. The lower part of the tower is serviced by an elevator, but there are some steps up to the very top. Very impressive the façade of this Cathedral and cute all over the area. Surely it is one of the most beautiful churches of the island

Unfortunately I failed to enter the Cathedral, though I was very curious how it looks like on the inside. For tourists there is access to the I believe costs 1.5 euros. You can visit the elevator or the stairs. From there you can see the skyline of the city (see Veguetę). You can also walk up a few stairs to the top and go to the highest point of the tower. There is a very tight fit.

  • Nice Cathedral, was closed when we went there even though it was during opening hours? Impressive from outside though
  • Well worth a visit but not a life-changing experience.
  • Beautiful, peaceful, and nice. Only 3€ to get in
  • Excellent day very interesting I loved the whole experience walking around the area's its must if you are in town
  • Mustsee including the 'museo' (3 euro's). The tower visit will cost you 1,5 euro extra.

Where to stay in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

For a view of the sea, consider lodging along the coast in one of the following neighborhoods: Arenales, Ciudad Jardín, Alcaravaneras, Santa Catalina, Ciudad Jardín, or La Isleta. These districts boast an assortment of hotels, rental apartments, and lodging near the beach that is also within walking distance of the city center. For an urban vibe, with a view over the modern city, consider accommodations in the city's old town or its earliest neighborhoods: Vegueta, San José, and Triana.
