Caldera de Bandama, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
(4.3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Hidden up in the wine country around Tafira, find Caldera de Bandama, a huge volcanic crater. From the rim, catch views of the surrounding island and into the 1 km (0.6 mi) wide crater. If you're feeling up to it, take the 200 m (700 ft) walk down the volcanic ash into the crater--it takes about half an hour, and you should make sure to wear comfortable shoes. To get here, catch the number 311 bus, leaving from San Telmo bus station every hour. There are also places to grab a snack nearby. Make Caldera de Bandama a centerpiece of your Las Palmas de Gran Canaria vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Las Palmas de Gran Canaria travel itinerary maker.

  • It is a view that changes according to from the place that you see it, in the Summit the advantage is the panoramic view that you see in the North of the island of Gran Canaria, including the bottom of the crater, as you go down, you can stop and go see caldera or crater better.

  • From up here you can see has a great view of Las Palmas, la Isleta and all the mountains around. Just before you get to the peak meets the bar "La Caldera", where they charge a € 2 coffee ... avoid.

  • If you have good legs you can undertake the descent and then an ascent of the crater. The landscape is almost Lunar. The trail is well marked and once at the bottom you can see the size of the crater.

  • . If you can survive the drive, you'll love the view . A satnav can be helpful for getting here. It is marked as a place of interest on Garmin satnavs, so that makes it easy to find. Otherwise you follow either the brown tourist signposts to Bandama - and it must be said that Gran-Can is pretty good on signs - or just follow the tourist buses. This at least will ensure that even if your route is round-about, you won't get stuck in a tiny narrow street. On the way there, there were other craters, so we kept thinking that we had arrived. But then when we got to the actual one, we realized just how puny the others were. This is big, very big, very impressive. But once you've looked at it a bit, unless you feel strong enough to walk down (and back up again . . .), there's not a lot to do, so make it a stop en route to somewhere else rather than a whole visit in its own right.. .
  • Data are impressive, a volcanic crater of 1 km in diameter and 200 meters deep. Well, see the whole thing from above, from the top of the peak Bandama and actually fails to impress the image. It does not remove it's not pretty, and that also highlight the views of the other side, where you can see the capital. It is not a place that would mark as essential, and not I recommend it who do not enjoy of hilly roads.

  • Panarama ... pity not having had time to go down into the crater's odd that inside there is a ruined house dating back to the early 900 I believe ...
