Surf Spot Famara, Lanzarote

4.5
#3 of 176 in Outdoors in Lanzarote
Walk the white sand shores of Surf Spot Famara, set against a dramatic mountain landscape. The beach stretches almost 5 km (3 mi) in the Chinijo Archipelago natural park. While unsuitable for swimming, its strong currents provide perfect conditions for water sports such as surfing, bodyboarding, and kitesurfing. Ride the waves of this internationally recognized surfing beach, or hang glide over the shores from the high cliffs above. Head to the nearby village center for a variety of restaurants serving fresh, local seafood. Arrange to visit Surf Spot Famara and other attractions in Lanzarote using our Lanzarote trip maker site .

  • Bathing in Famara Beach (one of the few that is volcanic) was the best. You become secluded Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen but taking the car is very easy to reach. The landscape is 11 out of 10 and the tranquility is also brutal.

  • very nice, but the wind prevented us even to sit on the beach. chilly treats for Beach picnics and ate snacks from sand. But the landscape is very wild and beautiful beach. Loved the kids jumping the waves.

  • Beautiful beach, very long and windy. Basically for surfing, although not windy days if he can take a bath and sunbathe. In general I don't recommend for families, because it might be dangerous for children because strong currents. For nature lovers. We highly recommend a visit.

  • A really great beach. Beautiful. Lovely little town with cool surf shops and little bars.
  • I'm a beginner and went there with my friend, who is experienced. It's a Sand beach so i didn't had to be affraid of Stones. The waves are good (depending in the day of course) and the beach is huge so there is enough space for everyone (there are a Lot of Surf school as well).
  • Best beach - epic backdrop great surf and kite surf. Cool sandy village behind the beach
  • I'm not a surfer, but I know a few surfing beaches. This one has the right geography to be good in the right conditions. Plenty of surf shops, offering lessons, rentals and equipment to buy. Due to the open nature of the ground behind the beach it's windy a lot of the time. I'm thinking kite surfing might be the best. Not much in the way of facilities, but there's a few cafe/bars around. View wise this beach is really up there with the best, and can be enjoyed by everyone.
  • It is a long beach and we drove to the 'Cliff Top Picnic' area that is pretty isolated but very peaceful. It is located at the end of the road, one one side you have sea and the other you have a mountain cliff.
