Papagayo Beach, Lanzarote

Unwind in the scenic surroundings of Papagayo Beach, a beach in a national park. If it is a clear day, look out to the islands of Puertito and Fuerteventura. The fine white sand and calm blue waters are ideal for relaxing and swimming. Though there is a cafe and bar for refreshments, compared to other beaches in Lanzarote this one has relatively few amenities, so come prepared. The short trek down to the beach might not be suitable for those with mobility issues or strollers. Plan my Lanzarote trip by asking Inpirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

  • Papagayo Beach completes a succession of large white sand coves where it is good to swim. It's beautiful, we walk very far, the sand is soft. Obviously we are not alone, but nothing to do with overcrowded beaches, we are far from being on each other. Getting there is worth it: a few kilometers of stony path (and paying: 3) before arriving at the car park, then a small path a little steep to go down on the beach. Too bad there is just above a small bar restaurant that distills a little noise and some smells. We preferred the beach Mujeres, next door, a little less pretty but without any nuisance.

  • So let's be clear, Papagayo Beach is one of the beaches in the national park with a fee-for-entry (3E). It's the most spectacular but it's also the smallest and therefore... The least one! Overall the whole site is the victim of overcrowding and a constant vas and come from tourists and locals who clash with the dry and stony track that serves the beaches. At the end of the day (after about 5 p.m.) you can not only benefit from the free entry, a little more space on the beaches but also a less violent sun (almost no shade on the site). Be careful with rental cars. Projection of pebbles possible. Another solution: Access is possible on foot by parking on the access road to the "Sandos Papagayo beach resort" (access, once possible by car is now pedestrian). The first beach is easily accessible despite appearances, as for the others (up to Papagayo beach), you have to plan a little walk and therefore water. But it's a very nice ride with a view that's worth it and at the end of the road... Splash!

  • Papagayo beaches are a must. Fantastically beautiful and mostly quite wind-protected. But: The access road from Playa Blanca has it really in itself. If you don't have an off-roader, it's better to slow down. It also has the toll station with barrier, where three euros of access fee are collected per car. After several passages, I can only say: be careful! There are always teams of two or three who work correctly and sometimes don't, if you pay your three euros, you should see that you get a access ticket, which WAS demolished FRISCH FROM THE BLOCK. Some of the gentlemen do not hand you a ticket and pocket the money themselves, others ask you unabashedly whether you still have your access ticket from yesterday or the day before yesterday and can return it. And then they sell it again. There's no digital cash register and nothing! In the "house" sits one with stacks of coins in front of him, the other comes to the car window, says "Three Euros, please", collects them and always swirls around with his bundles of banknotes. Actually the hammer that no one has taken action against. I knew the teams from seeing at some point and then I knew when we arrived whether we had to get a ticket or ask for it. Crooks... So always insist on a fresh tick and otherwise threaten with notification. Because somehow you have to dry up this swamp.

  • This amazing and hidden area is located in one of the National Park of lanzarote. There are fees for entering the place but the road is like a dirt road, no asphalt or tarmac route to get there. Discount applying only for residents. Big car park and free parking available. The scenery is spectacular. Great location for sleepovers with camper vans. Recommended it for sure. Amazing view and great Sandy beaches.
  • Brilliant beach with glorious sea breeze, there is a reasonably priced cafe on the hill over looking the beach with fantastic views. The road to the beach is very bumpy and parking can be a bit chaotic, but it is worth the trip. If you take a sun umbrella make sure you weigh it down as the wind has a habit of surprising you and scattering your stuff across the beach 😀.
  • nice secluded beach can be bit busy in the hot weather and during summer, it is only accessible by car as it is far from the main road with no bus service the road is also not paved and off road so ensure your hire car has the full insurance. There are no toilets or changing facilities however there are 2 x beach restaurants which you may be able to sneak into. We went to Be playa for lunch and to be honest it was just OK, it is pricey for the level of food I would have rather taken sandwiches.
  • Really enjoyed visiting Papagayo Beach. Water there is crystal clear and there are lot of fishes swimming around you. The road to get there could be improved, especially because you have to pay 3€ to enter the beach, but it’s definitely worth a visit. Don’t forget to bring your googles and food/water as it’s quite far away from the nearest town.
  • Beautiful beach. A nightmare to drive to as it's all off road. But soooo worth it! There's fishes swimming all around you and you can see them no problem thanks to the crystal clear waters!
