Cueva de los Verdes, Lanzarote

4.3
#2 of 14 in Nature in Lanzarote
Marvel at unusual rock formations in a kaleidoscope of colors on a tour of Cueva de los Verdes, a volcanic cave system. Its formation is a result of the eruptive activity of the La Corona volcano around 3,000 years ago, which created an underground tunnel. Listen to guide explain the unusual geology of the cave, tell how it has served as a hiding place, and reveal its special secret. The 1 km (0.6 m) cave has uneven floors, many steps, and low ceilings. It may not be suitable for those with mobility problems. Sensible shoes are recommended. Put Cueva de los Verdes into our Lanzarote road trip planning tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • The cave of the vast, beautiful and very atmospheric. But in the picture it looks like add, it is not even in the middle of the reality. You have to be there to experience the magic of this cave.

  • It is a wonderful thing. The ride is great and is something unique. Especially as the guide gets you the suspense in the body with the final secret. Unoca experience

  • The caves of the Greens also deserve to be in the list of the TOP10 of Lanzarote. It's great to get off to a few metres and enjoy the caves. The visits are always guided, and although the group that we had was not silent nor under water (poor guide had to ask silence all the time) it is an awesome place. Tail formed from noon is huge as you enter in groups of 50 in 50 and the visit lasts 1 hour, I think. I recommend going first thing in the morning to avoid the long queues. And don't forget to bring comfortable shoes, that many people are going with flip flops and then have problems by lowering... It is very close to the caves of the Greens.

  • I've been in caves in the past but never a volcano tube cave. It was simply amazing. The tour guide has an excellent command of English, which is helpful, but unfortunately once he finished the Spanish explanation and switched to English a lot of Spanish speakers started speaking amongst themselves, making it difficult for English speakers to hear. Our guide was fantastic and did repeatedly ask for silence while doing the English part. Eventually it worked. As for the caves, you are in for a real treat, and a few amazing surprises. It probably shouldn't need to be said, but I will add that a cave is not going to be particularly accessible for those with mobility issues.
  • Wonderful caves. There are a few places that are tight and where the roof is low, but we'll worth it. You need sensible shoes or walking candles.
  • The caves are simply incredible, beautiful and the secret at the end is awesome! You cannot wander around here without a tour though, and the groups taken are too big (50 people). The nature of the tour means you are waiting for people or being pushed along and you can never hear the tour guide as people talk over and snap pictures when asked not to. Smaller groups would make this much better! Be aware you need to often climb through small rock gaps and bend down massively to get through the caves.
  • The perfect place to visit if like me you cycled there on a hot day... lovely and cool! But even if you 'just' want to see and hear about a natural wonder it's definitely worth seeing. I wish they had had a live musician of some sort on in the last but one gallery though. It is set out for a performance and throughout the day there must have been hundreds of visitors.... Solo sax perhaps or Spanish guitar maybe?? The surprise at the end is beautiful and in my opinion worth the entrance fee alone 😀
  • Very interesting and informative, but if you have been underground in caves before, it's probably a bit pricey at E9.50. Guided tour lasts about 50 minutes.
