  • very interesting and modern visitor centre specifically on the subject of Volcanism on El Hierro. All information is available also in German. Exciting video footage to the undersea volcanic eruption in 2011

  • The emergence of the Canary Islands is represented with a video show very graphically. Bit too hectic for my taste, the images. Even if one already knows the evolution, not just the latest. Außergewönlich are the recordings of the latest volcano from restinga. For that alone worth a visit!

  • Very interesting, well presented by applying innovative techniques of audiovisual center of vulcanology. You can learn very dużyć about about the history, creation of Islands, tectonic movements, volcanoes. Great diagrams, photos and videos documenting the phenomenon. By the way: we stock up at the tourist information (e.g. at the airport) in passport (16.50 euros) that allows free entrance to all museums, open air museums and information centres on El Hierro. El Hierro was the site of spectacular underwater volcanic eruption in 2011. Disaster has struck mainly fishermen and residents, who at the time of the activity had to evacuate from the island. In the village of La Restinga from July to December 2011, several times announced alarm and evacuation of residents due to underwater explosions of the volcano. Within a week the island El-Hierro has grown about 7 centimeters. Sensors near the volcano reported numerous vertical and horizontal movements, and collected lava and gases led to the ascent to the Mainland a few inches in four days. As scientists, near La Restinga has been reported even 550 shallow and small earthquakes. About 30 of them had a strength of 3 or more on the Richter scale. The shocks are called magma rising beneath the ground, fracturing of rocks, and swelling of the surface as far as possible, when the hot lava begins to climb up. These phenomena in a very interesting manner are presented in the Centre of Vulcanology.

  • The vulcanology centre consists of 2 buildings separated by a short educational trail: the first building is rather general, the second particularly interesting door on the last eruption took place off the coast of La Restinga in 2011 (part of the information is available in french). Until the Restinga, the HI-4 road crosses the volcanic formations and lava fields.
