(4.8/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Roque de los Muchachos is a rocky mound at the highest point on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain. The rocks are found at an elevation of 2,423 m above sea level, not far from the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, where some of the world's largest telescopes are situated; the altitude and the dryness of the climate here give rise to excellent observing conditions. The rocks are contained with the Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente. From the Roque, one can see the islands of Tenerife, El Hierro and La Gomera.

  • First thing - the nearest toilet or place to get water is 35 minutes drive away, so be prepared! It's a great view and interesting to see the caldera and other islands in the distance, but unless you'...  more »
  • The ride to the top and the many places to the close down look, definitely be worth it! If you can see the top of the clouds, you would never go down. On the telescopes past, you can go by car up to the top of the mountain. But be careful, the parking lot is in good weather too small and unorganized, so that it can be ever quite cramped and chaotic. (Comment from a visitor: "all want to walk but no one wants to run far!")

  • Getting to the Summit is quite an experience. The narrow winding road must you like :-) - the same applies of course to the way back, but you are always rewarded with views that are breathtaking!

  • A beautiful location with spectacular views of the Caldera de Taburiente and of the other islands. Also home to many large and important telescopes which are almost as interesting as the view. The road up from Santa Cruz is very winding so I hope you don't get car sick (totally worth it even if you do). In the winter time the roads can be closed due to snow. In that case, it's fun to do as the locals do and drive up to play in it! Oh, and there are no petrol stations along the road so make sure you have enough fuel before leaving sea level...
  • Stunning view of the caldera. A must visit
  • Beautiful landscape, with friendly crows!!
  • Simply Awesome!!!! It takes your breath away!!!!!!!!!
  • Great vantage point. Duty visit in a la Palma. The best early visit. Later in the day, the parking spaces are occupied.
