  • After a stunning drive up the mountain (at least 48 hairpins!) we emerged into the lunar landscape of Los Muchachos - dotted with hi-tech telescopes. We joined the organised tour (no other way to see ...  more »
  • One of the best we have done on the island. The views are breathtaking and the rise, if it madruga a little bit and we are lucky, spectacular, with a blanket of clouds at your feet.

  • The tour of the world's largest telescope is on the agenda of the visit on the Roque de los muchachos, the highest peak on the island. The lead is modest €9. An American are the explanations, as only Americans can do it: scientifically accurate, but not fancy, and for every layman understandable - if one speaks English (or Spanish). For a little scary drivers, the extremely winding road likely represents a real challenge. So if at all possible good 1.5 hours travel schedule, calculated from Santa Cruz. Is still a problem to consider: the guided tours take place only in a few days and are strictly limited. It is so advisable ahead via the Internet to log on months. All in all, though a really worthwhile trip, especially the view from the top is fantastic.
