  • The visit is quite essential, by the serene beauty of the ruins in Cartoixa of Scala Dei, by the silence that reigns and the landscape that short breath. The visit can be completed with a trip easy to the vineyards, between la Cartoixa and the Serra del Montsant.

  • Interesting monastry museum with very nice views to the mountains! Monks brought the Vine here and started the whole wine business in Priorat. Try to visit Conreria d'Scala Dei, a very good winery in ...  more »
  • We have been in the area several times to go ride in the mountains. It is a great historical place with great significance for Priorat. If you also are interested in monastic orders it is a Must. The monastery itself is newly refurbished and it is much to look at, URF.eks Reflektoriet and a monastic cell. Afterwards you can take a cup of coffee in the small village.

  • Gorgeous views, tastefully preserved ruins, good signage in English as well as Spanish and Catalan. Not too expensive.
  • You moved to the time in which the monks colonized the Priory and shows in these photos their houses 700 mtr2 and its private gardens of the same measure. The truth is that I loved it.

  • Walk through Escaladei and you will discover that of Provence arrived in the 12TH century the monks of the order of the Charterhouse to build a monastery, thus founding the first Carthusian monastery of the Iberian Peninsula. They chose a unique landscape, framed by the mountains of Montsant, where a pastor had dreamed a few angels who ascended to Heaven by a ladder resting on the trunk of a pine tree, hence Escaladei or "ladder of God".

  • Impressive ruins of which was the first Iberian Peninsula Carthusian monastery. The restoration is very interesting and does not interfere in that romantic ruin look so attractive that it takes the place. The guide was very interesting, so I recommend you take the guided tour. The documentary film is completely soporific.
