El Faro de Cabo de Palos, La Manga del Mar Menor

4.5
#1 of 12 in Historic Sites in Municipality of Cartagena
Standing tall on a rocky hilltop above the town of Cabo de Palos, 81 m (265 ft) above sea level, El Faro de Cabo de Palos serves as a symbol of the city and the cape itself. Originally designed as a watchtower to help fend off pirate attacks, the lighthouse in its present form dates from 1864. Observe the tower’s flashing signal light, which lights up every ten seconds, as you admire its stone facade and elegant construction. While the lighthouse itself does not have any other facilities, the surrounding town is home to many restaurants specializing in Spanish seafood dishes. Although the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, there is a parking lot at the base of the tower from which you can marvel at the panoramic ocean views. • Beautiful views in an area of beaches and good places where to eat! The town is very nice and is very close to the natural park!

  • The most attractive of the Manga, the most walkable area: walks around the rocky promontories of the Cape, with their views towards the sea and the Islands ants, sleeve and the coast of the other side of the mar Menor and the slim lighthouse with more beautiful ascension of 150 years history as a beacon, but with a previous historical background. Ascension, by true, sown of graffiti protest against its possible privatization and conversion into a hotel.

  • It is worth walking from one of closest to the Cabo de Palos hotels in La Manga, about 3-4 km, to enjoy a special place, with fantastic views over the Mediterranean and an abrupt with not very high, but totally cliffs coast urbanized. In winter when I was was very quiet and had only opened a small bar, but in summer there are more bars and restaurants and I imagine that it will be more stressful. It is reachable by car also, although the lighthouse there is to climb walk through a path.

  • A great little spot to visit, can head off on walks along the coast, walk to the nearby cafes and bars and the beaches also offer a hot spot to head for some decent snorkelling around the rocks!
  • Great place to visit with stunning views, but can get a little busy at times.
  • It's just gorgeous, and the beaches either side were clean, empty and perfect for swimming. (Though it was October)
  • Lovely view of bay and surroundings. Working lighthouse. Where the British go.
  • Cool looking light house that you can walk up to that is free. Once your at the top there are some nice views.
