El Faro de Cabo de Palos, La Manga del Mar Menor

(4.4/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Standing tall on a rocky hilltop above the town of Cabo de Palos, 81 m (265 ft) above sea level, El Faro de Cabo de Palos serves as a symbol of the city and the cape itself. Originally designed as a watchtower to help fend off pirate attacks, the lighthouse in its present form dates from 1864. Observe the tower’s flashing signal light, which lights up every ten seconds, as you admire its stone facade and elegant construction. While the lighthouse itself does not have any other facilities, the surrounding town is home to many restaurants specializing in Spanish seafood dishes. Although the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, there is a parking lot at the base of the tower from which you can marvel at the panoramic ocean views. • It is a building that houses the faro de Cabo de Palos, put into service in 1865 and currently in use. Access on foot to the Esplanade of the lighthouse (not the building) and allows us to contemplate the greatest sea, Hormigas Islands, isla Grosa, the Manga of the Mar menor and the Mar menor back... If the day is clear you get to see a gorgeous stretch of coast to the North and as it is lost to the South Coast as well leaving the village of Cape Palos low lighthouse.
