Valle Gran Rey, La Gomera

(4.1/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Opening to a dramatic ocean view framed by volcanic hills on the southwest coast of La Gomera, Valle Gran Rey offers a secluded and authentic Canarian experience away from the bustle of some of the main islands. Admire the valley’s rugged surroundings and terraced hillsides as you explore its coves and hidden canyons. Go for a dip at a black sand beach, formed by volcanic rocks, or just relax along the shoreline at one of the many waterfront cafes serving coffee and seafood dishes. Discover more of the area’s natural beauty by renting a bicycle and following the many trails and pathways, or join a guided walking tour of one of the small maritime towns. The hiking trails in the upper valley are extensive, although they are not recommended for those with mobility issues, as many stretches are quite steep and rough. Before you head to La Gomera, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly La Gomera holiday planner, to make sure you see all that La Gomera has to offer, including Valle Gran Rey.

  • This is the only place that tempted me to swim in the ocean in December. A beautiful Bay below the vertical rock through. Place the most on La Gomera, although still non-commercial and worth the attention.

  • After a long and complicated directions to Valle Gran Rey. Here one quickly realizes that the pace of life is slower pounding. No one has left work rush and even many German tourists. Here, there are a few beautiful beaches with crystal clear water. Behind it, countless small pubs attract guests who want to spend the day not only between sand and water. Also there are often a few hippies that come from that time, so we see how quickly the time has passed since we were here 32 years ago!

  • Safe swimming, apparently, which is not the case everywhere on this island. A lot of beachside place and a certain amount of infrastructure, + a lot of Germans. I stayed up at La |Caldera, but came do...  more »
