Valle Gran Rey, La Gomera
(4.1/5 based on 280 reviews on the web)
Opening to a dramatic ocean view framed by volcanic hills on the southwest coast of La Gomera, Valle Gran Rey offers a secluded and authentic Canarian experience away from the bustle of some of the main islands. Admire the valley’s rugged surroundings and terraced hillsides as you explore its coves and hidden canyons. Go for a dip at a black sand beach, formed by volcanic rocks, or just relax along the shoreline at one of the many waterfront cafes serving coffee and seafood dishes. Discover more of the area’s natural beauty by renting a bicycle and following the many trails and pathways, or join a guided walking tour of one of the small maritime towns. The hiking trails in the upper valley are extensive, although they are not recommended for those with mobility issues, as many stretches are quite steep and rough. • Drive to the village of Valle Gran Rey Arure is an experience not to be missed. The difference is several hundred meters and the numerous miradores that lie along the path you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Valley that make you dizzy. Like Hermigua, even Gran Rey is distributed throughout the Valley to the sea, where there is the usual new urbanization, built specifically for retirees in Central and Northern Europe. Here the impact of cement is remarkable although inferior to other points in the Canaries. What is surprising is that the first language here is German; entering a bar or in a supermarket, not even arise the problem of contact the word in Spanish or English. Which is simultaneously funny and disconcerting. The Boardwalk is crowded especially at sunset, because the sun sets on this side of the island and Beach come hippies of various ages who play drums or selling pendants and necklaces.

  • A week on horseback on November and December 2016 - not too many world :-)) a village on a human scale which is divided into four sectors with each time specificity (the port - the beach - etc) - one or two pretty black sand beaches - a reserved ;-) sunset (winter right across from Valle Gran Rey) - of the lovely for dining places - the landscape breathtaking, especially if you enjoy hiking, because you have to climb over the hills and other cliffs to appreciate fully... Ideal for hiking in la Gomera :-))
