The Museo Arqueológico Municipal de Jerez de la Frontera is an archaeological museum on the Plaza del Mercado in Jerez de la Frontera, province of Cádiz, southern Spain. The museum occupies an 18th-century building which was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1962.It was established in 1873 as the Municipal Archaeological Collection, merging collections donated by wealthy individuals, and based at the Old City Hall of Jerez de la Frontera. The museum opened to the public in 1935. The collection includes a Corinthian helmet, extremely rare in Spain, found near the city's Charterhouse by the river Guadalete. The collection also includes Roman ceramics and other items.

  • The museum is a ten or so walk outside the main tourist area. Housed in a lovely old square.its well organised with videos in english and spanish. An excellent selection of exibits and a free audio gu...  more »
  • We visited on a very hot day so not only was it good to learn the history of Jerez throughout the ages but also extremely pleasant to spend some time in the beautifully air conditioned building. Not s...  more »
  • It is bigger on the inside than you expect, a few videos in English to help with the understanding about the history of Jerez and the Roman and Middle Eastern influences in it's past.  more »

  • Not far from the cathedral beyond the Domeq bodegas you'll find a square with small statues of Cervantes and Shakespeare. Behind this is the museum. Entrance for eu citizens is very cheap. Less than 2€. The building is air conditioned, has 3 floors of exhibits. Included is an audio tour. The in-room videos play in Spanish or English. We spent over 2 hours here. A hidden gem. There's also a small collections of coins through the ages. It's a good place to start your visit to Jerez as it describes how it is laid out, the Alcázar, the walls and churches. During an extension to the museum they found more archeology. A small area of the dig is on view.

  • Small in size but big on historical contribution, Museum has an extensive set of pieces dating from the Paleolithic until the 17TH century, convenient to visit Museum and indispensable to see if you want to know Jerez and its historical background.
