Museo Castillo De Javier, Javier
(3.3/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Rising atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the frontier with Aragon, Museo Castillo De Javier offers spectacular views of Navarre's famously green hills and forests. The castle dates back to the tenth century, and is well-known among locals as the birthplace of St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of Navarre. The castle is also home to a large number of 15th- to 20th-century Spanish paintings, as well as a collection of 19th-century Japanese kakemonos collected by the saint during his missions in Japan. Don't miss the 14th century Christ figure in the chapel of the Torre del Santo Cristo which, according to legend, bled when St. Francis Xavier was taking his last breaths in China. If you happen to be visiting in early March, note that the castle is the site of a major pilgrimage around this time in honour of its patron saint. • If like that you have the history of the Castle, not to enter. Only is the life and miracles of the Holy by the world. Beautiful by outside.

  • A must-see if you are in the area. The visit is with audio, allowing you to stop, look, take photos and live the story of these stones. The castle is very well-preserved and revolves around the life of San Francisco Javier. There is a Gothic Holy Christ of wood which smiles, says she cried blood to die San Francisco Javier. They visit all the rooms. The environment is very nice and quiet. There are 2 churches to visit, one front and one attached to the Castle. There are beautiful views of the place from the tower.

  • The Castle this perfectly preserved pieces of historical value. The visit takes you through the life of San Francisco Javier in the main part of the Castle. For an affordable price, it is worth using the audio-guide, if not, you lose your interesting explanations.

  • Castle for me is much nicer on the outside to inside. When pass the first door of the Castle you see that have closed access to the walls and to the outside. The only option is to enter into and once there there is access to the walls...(a penalty). The entrance is 2.75 euros without audioguide. It has a museum with the history of San Francisco Javier, pictures, several rooms, the homage Tower (which is the only time that exits to the outside) and the chapel. It is completely rebuilt. On one side, and accessed from the exterior of the castle is the basilica which you can visit for free.
