Inspirock Rating:
3.3/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
Rising atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the frontier with Aragon, Museo Castillo De Javier offers spectacular views of Navarre's famously green hills and forests. The castle dates back to the tenth century, and is well-known among locals as the birthplace of St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of Navarre. The castle is also home to a large number of 15th- to 20th-century Spanish paintings, as well as a collection of 19th-century Japanese kakemonos collected by the saint during his missions in Japan. Don't miss the 14th century Christ figure in the chapel of the Torre del Santo Cristo which, according to legend, bled when St. Francis Xavier was taking his last breaths in China. If you happen to be visiting in early March, note that the castle is the site of a major pilgrimage around this time in honour of its patron saint. • You can see very nice Castle, inside the life of San Francisco Javier, an oratory, an interesting art gallery, and the best of all climb to the tower. Beside the Castle this Javier Church, very nice, around there are a lot of services for tourists, note that it is a sanctuary, but there are also areas to go "for free" and relax among the pines...

  • If you are interested topic religious this is your Castle, inside a museum entirely dedicated to San Francisco Javier to this fairly complete and is very instructive, we expected something else, more with more accessories of the era, but apart from the dress and a medieval armor little thing. The castle is fully restored, but nonetheless has lost its medieval charm with drawbridges and battlements and towers with what you do to the idea of as it is lived in other times and the truth is that it impresses by its Majesty. Also at his side, we have a basilica and opposite a church that are worth to be visited. It is priced at € 3.

  • Castle for me is much nicer on the outside to inside. When pass the first door of the Castle you see that have closed access to the walls and to the outside. The only option is to enter into and once there there is access to the walls...(a penalty). The entrance is 2.75 euros without audioguide. It has a museum with the history of San Francisco Javier, pictures, several rooms, the homage Tower (which is the only time that exits to the outside) and the chapel. It is completely rebuilt. On one side, and accessed from the exterior of the castle is the basilica which you can visit for free.
