Jandia, Jandia Peninsula

Jandía is a peninsula in the southwestern part of the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. The peninsula is entirely in the municipality of Pájara. Within the peninsula is Fuerteventura's tallest mountain, Pico de Jandía or Pico de la Zarza, that rises to an elevation of 807 m. Jandía is connected with the rest of Fuerteventura through the isthmus Istmo de la Pared. Most of the peninsula has been a nature reserve (Parque Natural de Jandía) since 1987.On the south and east coasts of Jandía there are the beach reasorts Jandía Playa and Morro Jable. The western coast has some of the most beautiful and sandiest beaches in Fuerteventura and these are also used by surfers. The small fishing village of Cofete and the Villa Winter are situated on the north side of the peninsula.

  • The Jandía peninsula is located on the southern tip of Fuerteventura. In it are the best beaches of the island (listed as the best in Europe), famous for being huge, sand fine and clear blue water. BEACHES! Jandía can find some wonders as:-Cofete Beach: one of the most pristine beaches in Spain. It is almost deserted, with only a "handful" of adventurous tourists, as the road to Cofete is dangerous (30 min by car from Morro Jable via a dirt track next to a cliff with numerous bends). Recommended 100%. -Leeward zone: includes the beaches of la Barca and Risco del Paso. They are two postcards of Fuerteventura (great extension with windy beaches). It is the meeting point of those who practice water sports (kitesurfing and windsurfing). -Morro Jable: it is the most populous of Jandía nucleus. Many hotels near the village. -Beach of the Mediterranean maquis: is the beach most visited by tourists (visited, not crowded or much less), as it is located right in front of Morro Jable. It is a very good beach. The wind blows quite less than in the area of Sotavento. -Punta Jandia Lighthouse: located at the southern end of the island, from this Lighthouse you have a spectacular view of the coast. I did the joint visit of the lighthouse and the playa de cofete (share a part of the way). * best hotels in Jandía are the Iberostar and the Western (scrub Beach) *
