Jaén Cathedral, Jaen

(4.6/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Though construction of Jaén Cathedral began in 1249, most of what stands today is from the 16th century. It is the home of important religious relics, such as the Holy Face of the Veil of Veronica. It is said that Saint Veronica used this cloth to wipe the face of Christ, and his image then became imprinted upon it. Pick up an audio guide and admire the adorned interior of the cathedral. On the lower floor, experience an impressive collection of religious art from over the centuries. • It is very harmonious, beautiful, sober façade, few stained glass. Little information, too profuse audioguides in little practical details. It is pretty.

  • Jaén is a tiny city (100,000 inhabitants approx.), but with an old town that invites you to stroll. The Cathedral of Jaén, declared a national monument, designed by Andrés de Vandelvira and its monumental façade work of Eufrasio López de Rojas, is one of the best preserved cathedrals I have ever met. In the narrow streets of its around you will find plenty of pubs, but the most emblematic and old is the Sparrow Tavern. Streets of no more than one meter of width.

  • Probably not well known as a cathedral. In fact nobody told us to stop by here, and we did as a pure coincidence. The cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin and it's built in Renaissance-style. Notable safe and caveaux in the basement with lots of ancient reliques. Cathedral is quite nice, in comparison to the one of Granada, I much prefer this one. Entrance is €5, which I hope they will be immediately reinvested into conservation considering the condition there cathedral verse (e.g. windows broken that let the rain in).
  • good
  • €5 Really?
  • It is a wonder, both outside and inside. The jewel of a city as beautiful as unknown. A magnificent experience for its streets of its historic streets, its monuments, its bars and taverns. To those who complain of having to pay €5 for visiting the Cathedral, compared with what you offer me other visits to monuments by that or greater price, Jaén Cathedral compensates for more than.

  • Re-fuel in Jaén. Beautiful Cathedral inside and out. You can climb to the top from which you can see the inside and the outside of the Cathedral.
