Jaén Cathedral, Jaen

Though construction of Jaén Cathedral began in 1249, most of what stands today is from the 16th century. It is the home of important religious relics, such as the Holy Face of the Veil of Veronica. It is said that Saint Veronica used this cloth to wipe the face of Christ, and his image then became imprinted upon it. Pick up an audio guide and admire the adorned interior of the cathedral. On the lower floor, experience an impressive collection of religious art from over the centuries. • Certainly, but you must follow the guide. It is very difficult to circulate in this church. Especially on the first floor. The history of the region, and the Catholic Church are found in this building. Wonder!

  • It is one of the buildings of the most impressive Renaissance which you can contemplate. If out is something that leaves you completely hypnotized, by details and Majesty alike, inside even surpasses it, even more if you're lucky and visits all its annexes in different heights. It is advisable to be documented to enjoy, understand and enjoy the countless stories that exist in every corner, both in relation to the same Cathedral as with the same city. If you travel to Jaen, it is somewhat inevitable, do not leave without visiting this beautiful monument.

  • Having visited the previous two days, Úbeda and Baeza, we stopped at Jaén to visit its majestic Cathedral. The title of this written opinion refers to the injustice and embarrassed politicians guilty of that is not recognized, give me is not advertising and is not valued this superb, magnificent, beautiful and lush almost fully Renaissance Cathedral. The previous day in the Cathedral of Baeza we have many visitors, however in the Cathedral of Jaén, in the nearly two hours we were there only we have six visitors more. That a Cathedral with the history, art and architecture so rich, wonderful and superb this not be recognized, advertised, visited and promoted as it deserves, is a lack of respect for its history, its creators and even Jaen and the roots of its people. It is perhaps the most beautiful Cathedral that I have ever seen (and I've seen many), I have paid a lot to see another (some Gothic analuza which I will not name) and inside was to cry of empty, dark, little wealth... But however there were queues to enter. Entered me like crying penalty to see that no one watching the Cathedral of Jaén when we entered there is. It is an absolute masterpiece, and that some (as I have read here) say that "it has nothing to do" is high, but well there is no worst blind to which neither can nor wants to see. I say the civil and ecclesiastical Government of the city... Do the favor of valuing what you have, the Cathedral of Jaén does not deserve this abuse, pasotismo and disdain by all ye rulers of Jaén. So put your wonderful Cathedral where it deserves and of course also to restore it, which need you on many elements, mostly foreign. Without a doubt it is must-visit the Cathedral of Jaén, is beautiful, rich, perfectly executed, historical and a total masterpiece in the history of Spain. Who consider excessive €5 for the entry is that you don't know rating art. Thanks to those who made it possible to create this Cathedral, because for them we can visit and enjoy this gem. By the way, the City Council say explicitly... Once and for all do what is necessary in the environment that it is declared a world heritage site, deserves it a lot more than other cathedrals that already are. Thank you.

  • Nice and imponent! Inside beautiful!
  • Probably not well known as a cathedral. In fact nobody told us to stop by here, and we did as a pure coincidence. The cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin and it's built in Renaissance-style. Notable safe and caveaux in the basement with lots of ancient reliques. Cathedral is quite nice, in comparison to the one of Granada, I much prefer this one. Entrance is €5, which I hope they will be immediately reinvested into conservation considering the condition there cathedral verse (e.g. windows broken that let the rain in).
  • good
  • €5 Really?
  • The Cathedral more beautiful in the world
