(4.7/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Cueva del Viento-Sobrado underground complex is the largest lava tube in Europe, and the fifth largest in the world, behind a series of lava tubes in Hawaii. It was created by lava flows from Pico Viejo, next to Mount Teide. The cave is located in the town of Icod de los Vinos in the north of the island of Tenerife, Spain. It extends more than and contains three different levels of passageways, each full of geomorphological phenomena such as lava pits and terraces. The cave is rich in fossils of the "Canarian megafauna". Bones of Gallotia goliath and Canariomys bravoi, an extinct giant lizard and rat, respectively, have been discovered here. Archaeological remains of the Guanches, the ancient Berber native inhabitants of the Canary Islands, were found in several entries to the tube system. At present, the Cueva del Viento is a tourist attraction of the island.

  • Stop must no doubt for knowing the source volcano of the island, more than Teide, which all have by the more important island but if they tell you the story you realize realize that simply has its impressive height. Here we learned a lot about the different types of lava, rock formations that let these cool down and countless more data which are very interesting and more coming from someone who not do enough for counting them and introduce you to this exciting world. In addition, clearly, not only what was happening on the surface, but what was happening under it, which is more interesting even if it should be. A really exciting experience that I recommend to anyone. Return to highlight the passion and desire of Alfredo, and thank him for the treatment received by the other hand and above all work and fight there are carried out to protect, preserve and promote this unique place. An unforgettable experience and very educational! Let me also that you have to book in time, since visits are in small groups to protect the cave and grab plaza makes difficult.

  • Very good organized. Professional and kind people. You receive useful information. But the tour is draged out. It lasts 2,5 hours. You see just a short part in the underground. All can be shortened to 45 minutes but they have to justify the overpriced fee. They give you the feeling you are doing something exclusive. You need to make a reservation. The price is 20 euro / person. Concluding: if you have time you can go there. If your holiday is short, better explore the island in other ways.
  • Fantastic place to look around, truly unbelievable. We had the tour in English from a lovely (German?) man who was very knowledgeable and had a wonderful passion for the tunnels which made it so much more engaging. Highly recommended and I consider it a bargain at €20 per person compared to all the other attractions here.
  • This is a trip into a small section of Tenerife's longest lava tubes (one of the longest in the world). But it's much more than this! You gain an understanding of the volcanic events that have shaped the island, learn how lava tubes are formed and info about local flora and customs. It's a great package, our guide was very humorous & knowledgeable - just can't recommend this highly enough :-)
  • Our group enjoyed the most incredible experience hiking through trails leading to the cave of winds. They were able to access steep wooden steps that lead down the mountain. My group took photos of crystals and were able to hike into the cave. They were awestruck with the diversity of trees. We heard sounds of birds, parrots and what appeared the sound of a Falcon. It's important to carry water to drink and walking stick. Or make one from broken branches. The initial drive has dangerous serpentine roads. It is important to honk before curves and courteously stop and pull over safely to avoid accidents. Remember, you are driving up and down steep roads. Don't miss this opportunity to visit this State Park. Happy trails!
  • Without previously online reservation is no possible for visiting!! And 1 week before is no good time, all was fully 🤔😭
