  • Let's imagine that we have a time machine and put the date indicator marking the 70 years, just when I was born. At that time, the Canary Islands were not living as they do now, tourism and services, but that its economy was based primarily on Agriculture of subsistence and massive exports of bananas and tomatoes. The major islands, cosmopolitan, sought to open up to new horizons that will generate more revenue, and out of the era in which large owners and noble families took the reins of the Islands. La Gomera, so close but at the time so isolated, governed by the difficult topography, couldn't find the way out of this circle that the story had been locked it. But behold, appeared, as in all the legends, a heroine who was going to change everything. Doña Maruca Gomez, a teacher who is spotlessly because his students, adults who sought a means to overcome, in reading and writing decided to implement a part of the great passion that put in all their affairs to change the situation that existed in their village of Hermigua. Tired of that his countrymen would have to emigrate to Tenerife and the far Venezuela, launched a perfect plan to make them work and promote the island already almost forgotten craftsmanship. Bought looms and you put them together so the weavers could make bags and bedspreads, resurrected the fascinating island pottery (magic in the hands of the craftsman that does not use nor a simple lathe, but models it with your hands), recovered antique fixtures and kitchen utensils, farming, cheese and everything that passed by their expert hands, encouraged the use of the pad of banana soft but resistant to weave beautiful baskets... With the arsenal operating and producing, he decided to go one step further and marketed the wonderful fruit that came out of hands that saw a new future without being separated from their families. Already they would not emigrate; on the other hand, would see now as tourists would visit your beautiful island and bought what with so much love and dedication had been manufactured. Later, Doña Maruca gathered part and its collection and opened a Museum whose heart is a gofio mill craft moved by water, which his grandson proudly teach hundreds of visitors who daily pass through the Museum. In addition two stores that offer the best of island crafts, with an infinite variety of souvenirs, a cosy and bright Cafe, and a garden where it grows all kinds of fruits and vegetables, such as mangoes, avocados and beets a beautiful palm tree where the way in which we can closely see for centuries is obtained the guarapo. The looms is a must-visit place, not only to buy, taste the local produce and enjoy the Super Museum but to learn the history of this family of entrepreneurs who would not that Hermigua let die its traditions, its culture and its economy. Three generations that were born of the illusion and the effort and got change a chapter in the history of La Gomera.

  • On my trip to La Gomera I've been really very fond of this accommodation. The location in the Green Town is very good. Parking in front of the door, a short off road up to the restaurant at the roundabout. Laundry service and German reception. We come back.
