Bodegas López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, Haro

4.6
#2 of 13 in Things to do in Haro
Take a trip back in time and experience how wine has been made since the 1800’s at Bodegas López de Heredia Viña Tondonia. Tour through a still operational winery that has been using the same methods since its construction in 1877. Journey down into cobwebbed tunnels where the bottle aging takes place, then through the coopers' workshop where they still hand make their barrels. You will end your tour at a much more modern, above-ground shop and can take a trip to the tasting room bar to sample the outcome of this process. Make sure you book a tour in advance, as they may not take walk-ins. Arrange to visit Bodegas López de Heredia Viña Tondonia and other attractions in Haro using our Haro road trip planner.

  • It is the second time I travel to Haro and is the winery that I spend more time. You have a tour to the winery that is worth 30 per person, auqnque give you a bottle of your wine more emblematic, Viña Tondonia. It has a wine bar only where consuming 3 different wines, Cubillo, Bosconia and Tondonia which have the same price per Cup, €2.10 and always accompanied by bread and sausage. Attentive and professional staff

  • Tasted some of their wines at the wine bar - good wine, and interesting modern design of the wine bar, but very busy and not quite as relaxing as others in the area nearby.
  • Nice tour of a vinery, good old bodegas, with tasting at the end.
  • The best? Very famous, rather expensive, highest quality though
  • Awful. Rude and arrogant staff and wines were not to my liking. I asked for a small taste to see if I wanted a bottle of the Tondonia. She started pouring a glass - I told her again just a taste while she poured (we were driving that day) and she said don't worry. My friend and I both found the wine unpleasantly acidic - almost vinegary. She said 'are you buying it?'. I said no and she said 'fine then €2.10 for the glass'. We paid and walked out and went to CVNE and spent €100 on fantastic wines.
  • We happened to be in Logrono over our anniversary, and what a wonderful way to spend the day. This is the oldest winery in Spain, so they take a lot of pride in how they process the grapes and keep to the highest standards. There is a 25 euro charge per person for the tour, but it includes their best bottle of wine, a tasting of their wines, and some cured meats. After the tour, we decided to purchase a bottle of wine to enjoy on their patio alongside a platter of meat and cheese. We had inquired about purchasing the meat and cheese platter, but they treated us to it. It was wonderful to sit out in their chairs (repurposed wine barrels) with the warm sun and delicious wine. Simply magical.
