Salinas de Teguise, Guatiza

(120+ reviews on the web)
Learn about the natural resource that the island of Lanzarote prospered from with a trip to Salinas de Teguise, the local sea salt flats. Formerly one of the island's most lucrative sources of income, the industry has seen a major decline in recent years as real estate converts the seafront to hotel property. The salt industry flourished before freezing fish at sea became an option; harvested sea salt was used on fishing boats to preserve catches. Visit what remains of this dwindling industry with a trip to the derelict sea flats, where you can still see the long stretches of cordoned off vats. Put Salinas de Teguise at the forefront of your travel plans using our Lanzarote tour planner.

  • A lot of guides boast the beauty of this place highlighting the varied colors that sparkle in the Sun. I saw nothing like this. Most of the salt pans were dry. Too bad.

  • We are just kept – very impressive that the later salt fields were cut off by lava from the sea. We went then to the beach (Playa de Janubio) which is absolutely worth seeing.

  • Lovely views from the road, 5 minutes is enough to enjoy the time of a photo after nothing exceptional for those who have already seen the Saltworks, to do by the way.
