  • This bustling, picturesque Plaza is in the heart of historic Granada, and a must see. Architecture dating back to the early 1500's, the history is palpable. The Plaza's name is misleading, as it is th...  more »
  • This square feels like the heart of old Granada; you can see the Alhambra Palace, you are surrounded by beautiful buildings, there are trees and shady benches, and there are restaurants and places to ...  more »
  • This attractive plaza can be very busy but I found it a pleasant place to sit down and watch the crowds go by. A beer and tapas was very reasonably priced at one of the plaza's sun-shaded cafes - a go...  more »

  • My wife and I stayed at Estudio Plaza Nueva for four nights during our first trip to Spain. Before arriving, there was email communication from the owner to arrange arrival details as there is no reception/staff on site 24 hours. However, the owner only lives 15 minutes away and she said she could be contacted by phone so hopefully if there were any issues with the apartment, things could hopefully be fixed in a timely manner. My only concern is that the owner speaks limited English but simple problems should still be amenable to communication. We also asked for an apartment on the higher floor so that we could have a better view and this request was accommodated with no problems. We arrived slightly early so stood at the entrance door to wait for her arrival. She was pleasant and explained the various amenities in the apartment and then left us to ourselves. The apartment was clean and very well equipped with amenities including a small kitchenette (not something we used during our stay anyway). We loved the central location which was close to all tourist attractions we were looking for. The view from the balconies was fantastic especially being able to see the Alcazaba in the morning during sunrise. The cafe downstairs is also a popular breakfast spot for locals and tourists. However, there were a few problems with the place. Firstly the bathroom was designed in such a way that when showering, water would leak out towards the kitchen. This necessitated using a rolled up towel to block the door and daily drying of the towel in front of the heater. Secondly, the great location overlooking the plaza has a trade-off especially on the weekend due to the noisy crowd downstairs and also the ringing bells of the cathedrals/churches every 15 minutes. Thirdly, no toiletries were provided (luckily we brought our own although admittedly their description did not promise any such thing). Lastly, the decor of the place whilst nice and comfortable did feel a bit crowded and cluttered including my poor wife hitting her head on the bookshelf which is conveniently situated on the way from the lounge to the kitchen. Overall however, these were small problems and I think this is still a fantastic place to stay in Granada for a very reasonable price. Definitely consider this place an apartment for rent and not a "hotel".

Where to stay in Granada

Granada is built in a valley looking up to the majestic Alhambra, and most visitors choose to stay where the view can be admired. Plaza Nueva, just down the hill from the Alhambra entry gates, constitutes the touristic center of the city. Many of the famous free-tapas bars and lively restaurants line this famous plaza, as well as a number of small hotels and apartment rentals. Found directly behind the plaza are the city's two historical old Moorish quarters, Albayzín and El Sacramonte, which are characterized by their narrow winding streets and picturesque whitewashed buildings. Here you'll find a number of charming hotels with hillside views of the Alhambra and city center.
