Monasterio Cartuja, Granada

4.1
Considered one of the most beautiful monasteries in the country and a fine example of Spanish Baroque architecture, Monasterio Cartuja took around 300 years to build. Sculptures and paintings fill its flamboyantly decorated interior, and you can’t miss the dome mural. Notice the way the geometric surfaces echo each other, and think of this as the Christian reply to the Moorish Alhambra. Consider taking the bus to reach this attraction. The monastery of La Cartuja is a bit out of the Centre but well worth the visit because, if there is an austere building in yellow sandstone, the Interior of the Church is known as one of the finest examples of Spanish Baroque and especially the stucco decoration of the sacristy are amazing.

Offers ample free parking, located in the University District. The visit, surcharge and costs €5.00, shall be assisted by a practical audioguide. From the outside appears simple and humble. Upon entering you will discover a fascinating place, which in the Church and sacristy, both extraordinarily rich, items of interest. Despite being delocalized, close to the historic centre, is well worth the visit.

Where to stay in Granada

Granada is built in a valley looking up to the majestic Alhambra, and most visitors choose to stay where the view can be admired. Plaza Nueva, just down the hill from the Alhambra entry gates, constitutes the touristic center of the city. Many of the famous free-tapas bars and lively restaurants line this famous plaza, as well as a number of small hotels and apartment rentals. Found directly behind the plaza are the city's two historical old Moorish quarters, Albayzín and El Sacramonte, which are characterized by their narrow winding streets and picturesque whitewashed buildings. Here you'll find a number of charming hotels with hillside views of the Alhambra and city center.
