Monasterio Cartuja, Granada
(3.9/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Considered one of the most beautiful monasteries in the country and a fine example of Spanish Baroque architecture, Monasterio Cartuja took around 300 years to build. Sculptures and paintings fill its flamboyantly decorated interior, and you can’t miss the dome mural. Notice the way the geometric surfaces echo each other, and think of this as the Christian reply to the Moorish Alhambra. Consider taking the bus to reach this attraction. • It is a little reserved, but the bus drops you off at the door. The Church is spectacular. Very ornate, but nice

  • Is an of the jewels monumental of Granada and one of the main legacies to the Baroque, Plateresque and last Gothic in Spain. Easy access and parking ample in its interior. Currently does not have community of monks Carthusian. Impressive collection of painting of Sanchez Cotán with amount of scenes of martyrs of monks and saints under the reign of Enrique VIII in England. Stand out in the outer chapels that overlook the cloister a sculpture of Ecce Homo of the brothers Garcia and a Virgin with the child of Jose Risueño of the Baroque sculptor. Large number of pieces of inlaid wood, are scattered throughout all of the dependencies of the Charterhouse in the sacristy (which took 37 years in its construction) and at the main church in auxiliary furniture and doors. Impressive inside the Church pictures, the Tabernacle and the Altar with a baldachin built in 1719 by Francisco Hurtado Izquierdo and an image of the assumption carved by José de Mora. Without doubt one of the great monuments of Spain. Must visit if you are in Granada.

  • The monastery of our Lady of the assumption, Charterhouse of Granada, it housed a community of Carthusian monks until 1835. I like, in particular, of this church, made of stone from the region and with arabesque style. Highlight for importnância of the paintings of the old refectory of the Carthusian monks. And the perspective for the cross that looks like wood, but it's not. Is painted.

  • A must see in Granada - it's worth walking a bit till its location. Unique marble sacristy and tabernacle in spanish baroque style
  • Yesterday I was visiting, once again, La Cartuja with some friends who are not from here. I was surprised the lack of cleanliness in the Snncta Sanctorum, there is much dust, this belies a work of art of that calibre. would not be possible to arrange things so that this artistic heritage is maintained with the dignity they deserve their rank? There are many people out of work that would make happy this maintenance. Thank you very much for your attention

  • I liked more than the Cathedral, but it is a shame to be so bad care and having so many enclosed rooms.

  • Outside and sober cloister, style XVIII. The Interior of the Church is in a baroque style a bit clumsy that I don't appreciate a lot. Each his taste.

  • Beautiful monastery, but after the monasterio de san jeronimo away in the city, he fell a little bit in it.
