Carmen de los Martires, Granada

4.6
#2 of 8 in Parks in Granada
Not precisely in the style of the Moorish gardens of Granada, Carmen de los Martires nevertheless offers gardens with many years of history. Perched on a hill top, the park also features excellent views of the nearby Sierra Nevada mountain range. Only peacock’s calls break the silence. Note that you may find the gate from the main road padlocked and have to circle around; follow the signs to the Falla Auditorium for entry. Consider bringing a picnic. • Beautiful landscaped gardens on a hillside near the Alhambra. A lot of green in this romantic garden with animals and also a nice building, sculptures and everything else. Relaxing walk after cultural visits.

  • Off the tourist path classic, Carmen de los Mártires though not too simple to reach will reward you the effort made. Perfect to unwind after the visit to the Alhambra, will delight you with its spacious and manicured Park in the shade

  • Such a peaceful existence away from the (beautiful) but very touristy Alhambra. Particularly enchanting in the mornings - make sure to explore all the grounds.
  • Small, peaceful, pleasant garden with a good view, and peacocks walking around. Next to the Al Hambra and the much grander Generalife gardens. (Carmen means walled garden.)
  • lovely spot to complete your Alhmabra visit, just a few minutes from the main entrance
  • Un sitio pequeño, bonito y con muy buenas vistas de Granada.
  • I don't understand why this is not more often mentioned in guide books. The gardens are beautiful; with glorious peacocks walking around. There are also some dramatic views of the valley... And it's free too so grab a book and take some peace and quiet here for a little while

Where to stay in Granada

Granada is built in a valley looking up to the majestic Alhambra, and most visitors choose to stay where the view can be admired. Plaza Nueva, just down the hill from the Alhambra entry gates, constitutes the touristic center of the city. Many of the famous free-tapas bars and lively restaurants line this famous plaza, as well as a number of small hotels and apartment rentals. Found directly behind the plaza are the city's two historical old Moorish quarters, Albayzín and El Sacramonte, which are characterized by their narrow winding streets and picturesque whitewashed buildings. Here you'll find a number of charming hotels with hillside views of the Alhambra and city center.
