Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web
The largest lake in the province of Catalonia, Lake Banyoles offers both relaxation and a multitude of aquatic activities. With a shoreline of 9.3 km (5.8 mi), this 2.1 km (1.3 mi) long lake is ringed by tree-covered hills, small towns, and green spaces. Hike around the lake and the surrounding forests on a network of trails that connect the town of Banyoles with neighboring villages. Take a dip in one of the many swimming areas, or rent a canoe or kayak to explore. The lake hosted the rowing events for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Grab a drink and a bite to eat at one of the many cafes along the shore, many of which serve local freshwater fish, such as carp, pike, and eel. Bicycles and scooters are available for rent at facilities along the waterfront, along with English-language boat tours traversing the lake.
