Lake Banyoles, Girona
(4.5/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
The largest lake in the province of Catalonia, Lake Banyoles offers both relaxation and a multitude of aquatic activities. With a shoreline of 9.3 km (5.8 mi), this 2.1 km (1.3 mi) long lake is ringed by tree-covered hills, small towns, and green spaces. Hike around the lake and the surrounding forests on a network of trails that connect the town of Banyoles with neighboring villages. Take a dip in one of the many swimming areas, or rent a canoe or kayak to explore. The lake hosted the rowing events for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Grab a drink and a bite to eat at one of the many cafes along the shore, many of which serve local freshwater fish, such as carp, pike, and eel. Bicycles and scooters are available for rent at facilities along the waterfront, along with English-language boat tours traversing the lake. • I do not recommend ANYTHING, much heat that do, climb into the Lake. And not just by the smell of sewer to desprendre... the made of not see nor a fish near the area of bath gives that thinking. Apart from that, is a beautiful promenade of about 2-3 h to go all round. Although there is one kilometre onwards that runs beside the road without trees, and if you are with kids or dogs, better avoid it because of the danger.

  • Despite the cool weather there was a nice walk along the lakeside (an even longer trek right round the lake is possible but I think that would be better attempted in the summer), and the bird life aro...  more »
  • It is tradition for all the inhabitants of the vicinity to occasionally turn to the Lake, is about 6 - 8 km maximum you can do easily in little more than one hour. the arrival at the Lake this well indicated, and there is parking available in the Pavilion of the dredger. turn can be biking or simply walking, those who require a wheelchair or so, probably not completed return to 100% but if much of it because there is a track bike that eventually merges with a road at one end. Highly recommended at any time of the year.
