  • It is essential to take a stroll through the wall (promenade of the beach of San Lorenzo) that we call the mother of the emigrant in Gijón and get to the monument. Located in a site spectacular with views to the sea. The ride is worth.

  • The muyerona, as the shallow, lie it is a controversial sculpture that summarizes in a way the Asturian diaspora. In my opinion collects the despair of them mothers of those that are ventured to "make the Americas". If you are strolling through this area of Gijón, stop and look at it awhile with much respect. That way you will pay a modest tribute to the memory of mothers suffered and the adventurous who crossed the Oceana sea. Now, if you want more information, go to Colombres and visit the Museum of the immigration, a site fantastic that documents practically all the history of the emigration Asturian. I note that who writes this crossed "the puddle" in 1952 with four years of age. You should not boot people from their land or country, not force. People is painful, the land remains sore. We are born and cut us the umbilical cord. Us banish and nobody cuts us memory, language, the hot flashes. We have to learn to live as the Carnation of the air, properly of the air. Juan Gelman

  • If the visitor is paseante turn advice can be given, in moments of Sun, walk to the monument of the "migrant mother", popularly known as "The lloca de el Rinconin". From there you can continue on the path of Providence to the cliffs. But is gives it turned and is takes an appetizer in any of the restaurants or picnic areas that there is before focus again the ride of the wall of San Lorenzo.

  • A typical place in Gijón, better get walking to the edge of the sea. The iconic sculpture is a symbol of the city

  • When they placed the sculpture, appeared at the town of Gijón awful, experienced it as "La Lloca" (La Loca). It suffered even a bomb blast of low power. Today, it is one of the most beloved emblems of the city. It shakes its pathos. It is worth a visit, and if it is a comfortable stroll there bliss will be complete, ignore me.

  • It is the first sculpture of modern language installed in a public space in the city. As it will happen later, formal transgression will provoke a lively debate between the gijoneses at this time. Currently, it is one of sculptures more features of the city, with a strong symbolic sense. Located in the Paseo de el Rinconin, mother looks to the sea, to which reaches degarradoramente one of his hands. Muriedas tried to capture in her suffering so many Asturian and gijonesas that looked at how their children should be starting in search of a life better.
