Specialty Museum Museum
Former home to the Marqués and Marquesa of Casa Torres, the mentors of Balenciaga during his lifetime, Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa is situated on a hilltop overlooking Getaria. Inside the villa is the largest collection of Balenciaga pieces in the world, tastefully displayed in a space designed by Julián Argilagos. In addition to admiring the fine dresses draped on mannequins, you can sign up for embroidery workshops that teach adults how to execute the delicate work that gives Balenciaga's work its distinction. Register for the workshops on the museum's website before your visit.  Use our Getaria travel itinerary maker to visit Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa on your trip to Getaria, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.

  • Beautiful museum that was informative re fashion. Due to exhibit change over most of it was closed. Very well done in the one open room.  more »
  • We talked to the lady at the front desk and she gave us lots of information and brochures. Gorgeous building and great exhibition.  more »
  • I'm not the artsy fartsy type, but thought this little museum was pretty interesting.
  • Great but AC was not working so well. Must see if you are in Basque and love fashion
  • A really interesting museum - regardless of whether you know much about the man and his work. It's been put together in a way that takes you through the story, the influences and the legacy without assuming you are a fan. It's also an incredibly well designed building and the architecture of the museum is a bit of a sight in an otherwise quiet coastal town.
  • Thought it would be lame but honestly learned more about fashion in 1.5 hours then I had in the other 37 years of my life.
  • Very nice museum with many Balenciaga creations. Not very crowded.
