La Granja, Esporles

4.0
Perched in the foothills of the Tramontana mountains, La Granja is a working 17th-century farm and estate. The site passed through the hands of the Romans, Moors, feudal Christians, and the Cisterian monks before its acquisition by its current owners, the Fortuny family. Today, it exists as a living museum of traditional Mallorcan culture and craftsmanship. Inside, you will find carefully preserved antique furnishings and craftsmen at work in trades such as blacksmithing, Spanish grasswork, and tanning. A stroll through the gardens reveals elm trees, fragrant rosemary, a 9.1 m (30 ft) natural spring, and local animals like the Mallorca goat and black pig. Don't forget to sample the traditional Mallorcan fig bread, bunnelos, and fig and apricot jams made on site. • La Granja is an old manor of Esporles, off the main tourist tracks. The place is inhabited since Roman times. The reason for this is the bubbling in August from the rock source of fresh water, which provides water for the whole estate. The Manor is a beautiful example of noble country way of life in the early 20th century. A small tour of the stately home is a good insight into the various rooms with old furniture, the old kitchen and above all the craft rooms, such as dyeing workshop, olive press, pottery, and much more. The large garden with ancient trees invites you to stroll. After the tour, specialities are offered (included in the admission price) such as such as homemade warm potato doughnuts with orange marmalade, cheese snacks, sausage bites. A small restaurant with open terrace offered also warm, cold and sweet foods, coffee and wine at reasonable prices. From my point of view, the entry of € 15 for this interesting place worth.
