More than 40 years of history

The beauty of Ibiza with its magical and secret corners and its spectacular weather, captivated the hippies in the sixties and so they decided to settle in the island, still unknown to mass tourism.

The origins of Punta Arabi Hippy Market backdate to the year 1973 when the management of the Hotel Club "Punta Arabi" offered the hippies to sell their handicrafts and products brought from different parts of the world for the few tourists staying in the club at that time.

In the beginning, the market had only five stalls: Maggie with her delicious pastries, a lady from Formentera selling hand-knit sweaters made by wool from their own sheep, a boy selling puppies, children who exchanged toys, another person selling jewelry brought from India. The pace of violins, guitars and "jam sessions" enlivened the whole setting. In those early days the hippies put their stalls on the ground under the trees showing their products on draperies.

Over the years this market has become an hotspot and a must for any visitor of Ibiza.

The market now already has over 500 stalls and on wednesdays in August they cylcles several thousand people per day, enjoying the wonderful atmosphere in the garden area of the Club Punta Arabi.

  • Lots of parking nearby but €4 charge courtesy of those capitalist hippies. The market is very big with loads of stalls mostly of the usual tat (healing crystals, sarongs, jewellery) but also some nice artisan, hand made stuff in the mix.. Enjoyed the live band and bar which made a nice respite from the shopping and heat. There were quite a few hippies smoking the herb which added to the authenticity and aroma! Well worth a visit if you have a car/scooter but probably not if you don’t.
  • Almost everyone is selling a slightly different collection of goods that you can find on Amazon or in abundance at souvenir shops throughout the island. If you are nearby and it is no extra trouble for you to go I recommend it for the atmosphere and colorful booths. If you are planning on buying handmade, artistic, or artisanal goods, there is no need to come all the way here from any other part of Ibiza. I was in San Antonio and made the mistake of coming all the way here in the hopes of finding interesting buys, but I have seen all the junk they're selling on amazon for much cheaper. CAVEAT: There were a handful of people who were selling interesting and beautiful things of their own creation, but there are a handful of these kinds of vendors at all of the other major cities in Ibiza. Do not waste your precious vacation time.
  • We'd a great time wandering around the busy market.. some stuff the same but you can find good gems there too. Would recommend, but be prepared for it to get crowded in some areas.
  • A nice place to go. Excellent craft stalls with a lot of chose. Try the food and beers, they are great and not to pricey.
  • I loved this place but I'm a bit of a hippy at heart anyway. Not my mother's thing and my eldest son done nothing but moan 😂 but if you into different stuff then I'd highly recommend it. Colourful throws, t shirts from 60s bands and v dubs, incense, loads of jewellery, funky bright coloured glass tee light holders etc. Even got my dogs new engraved, leather collars. X
