  • Despite having lived my whole life in the North of Spain (or maybe) precisely why always aroused my curiosity around that world that surrounds the Iberian pig and its products (perhaps the good which are also influences) and found me a beautiful image the presence of those pigs feeding in the meadows. Naturally I am referring to those occasions where I've displaced by Salamanca, Extremadura or the Sierra de Aracena because in the North there are no meadows or Iberian pigs. The case is that I had always wanted to be able to travel to one of these sites, in times in which the trees of rangelands (holm-oaks, cork oaks, gall Oaks,...) produce acorns that take advantage of pigs to feed themselves during the montanera. Taking into account the period in which starts the montanera (October-November) I was never possible to travel to one of the indicated places but recently (at the end of last October) I had the opportunity to do so on a visit to Aracena. After looking on the internet I found two companies that were guided not only its facilities for production of hams and sausages, but also own rangeland where the pigs nourish themselves freely; truly this second part was that most interested me. After reading the information that expose both companies on their web pages, I got in touch with them to clarify some issues and see it's possible to arrange a visit. One of those firms, ham Eiriz, immediately answered my e-mail and answered my questions in what made a visit with them. The other company, Aracena, also answered me, later, (which is understandable because at that time was the ham fair in Aracena and they entered liadisimos) but by then I had already committed. HAMS EIRIZ: House founded in 1842, specializing in the production and sale of hams and sausages from Acorn. Besides that, another one of the main activities carried out is the drying of hams to other companies and individuals. They have own meadows and have received different awards which include the Golden ham in the fair of the ham of Aracena in 2015; This award is given to the career and the quality of their products. LOCATION: it is in Corteconcepción (Huelva) about 9 Km from Aracena, 75 km from Huelva and 85 Km from Seville. It is a small village surrounded by pastures and the beautiful swamp of Aracena in their vicinity. Hams Eiriz GPS coordinates are: N 37.892875 and W 6.499222. The rest of data such as address, contact telephone, website and email contact listed in the description of this attraction on TripAdvisor. VISIT: all the Sierra de Aracena only found on the internet two (this and the other located in Aracena) companies that conduct guided tours, not only its production facilities but also the pasture to see the pigs in their natural habitat. The visit includes the following:-visit to the Meadow: therein will be in direct contact with the pigs in their midst while they feed, they bathe, etc. - factory tour: she teach us (accompanied by the corresponding explanations) the various units where they make the sausages, the saltiness of the ham area, different parts of drying of the product (at least 3 different) and Winery where complete healing (whole process lasts between) 3 and 4 years, depending on their weight, in the case of hams). -Wine-tasting: in a room equipped for that purpose; consists of a tasting (very generous indeed) of 2 types of hams (one of 100% iberico pig of Acorn and the other field bait, what used to be called recebo) and also Iberian Acorn loin. All accompanied by 3 types of wine of the County. Duration of the visit: 2 hours and a half (divided roughly in equal parts in the e phases of the visit). Opening hours: visits are often perform at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. (in summer only the visit of the morning). It seems that they can be up to 4 languages. You must be booked in advance the visit (even if they are very flexible on it). You can also buy their products in the same factory and have online shop on your website. PRICE: 37.5 €/ person. (includes visit and tasting); children are reduced to between 12 and 18 years and below 12 years free. This is the price stipulated for visits with a minimum of 2 persons; However, if someone wants to make the visit alone, for the reason that is, it is also possible although the price in this case is, logically, more. That was my case as had efforts to make the visit and it could do so only 2 specific days; How not anyone else it did I single and I paid therefore €65, which may look like much but considering I had a person dedicated to my only for 3 hours and the abundant and extraordinary tasting seems to me a normal price (finally and after them do not have guilt that do not appear any another person for the visit or that I could not change my date of visit). MY EXPERIENCE: I contacted by e-mail a week in advance with the company. I answered right away, a person called Bethlehem that I gave all kinds of explanations and facilities to visit. Then I contacted her by phone a couple of times to finalize details and date and if there was any another person for the visit on dates where I also could, and thus I would be cheaper. I present in the factory at 11 h of the agreed day and there I received Manuel who was my guide during the whole visit and tasting and that turned out to be a nice, knowledgeable and extremely helpful person giving me all kinds of explanations in all phases of the visit and insisting that he ask any questions that arise me. The first phase was the visit to the Meadow, which was where most liked me also because it was for my the most unknown. I loved to see so close to pigs in their midst, closer, touch them, see them eat, see how they bathed after eating, etc. Then Manuel told me things about the purity of the breed, its characteristics, feed, traceability, the minimum area which must have the pasture for each pig (they had at that time 32 pigs and at the rate of 1 hectare per pig), issues related to the weight of the pigs, etc. The factory tour was also very instructive seeing salting and the different natural dried during curing ham and wineries. Also in this stage is me explicaron 4 existing categories (changed a couple of years ago) that may appear on the labelling. The extraordinary, and abundant tasting with a superb product and two hams so good that I didn't know how to tell the difference between them (although admit to not be any person skilled in the art; just an amateur). While the visit was extended even more than 2 hours and a half scheduled (we were at least 3 hours) I was not long at all. MY IMPRESSION: it seems to me a very interesting experience to learn about the world that surrounds the ham from the base. In my case it was really entertaining and instructive. The two people with whom I had contact crib (on request) and Manuel (as a guide) are of a very nice, give all the facilities of the world and provide very interesting information (at least for my). Price of the visit that a priori may seem high it seems to me of the tighter taking into account the duration, dedication and superb final tasting. It seems to me absolutely recommendable and very well organized activity.

  • I did this same visit last year and the truth is that I loved it. The brothers are charming and above all very currantes. It is great! Visit their facilities outdoors to know the dehesa and the Iberian eating pigs and its air, and then all your interior rooms are known. The truth is that it is worthwhile, especially by the last tasting. We tried ham and pork loin and it was great everything! To repeat again,

  • I really enjoyed the tour around the plant and the pastures where Iberian pigs wander around and look for acorns. The tour guides are very friendly and attentive and the ham and wine served in the end is in copious quantities and so delicious! Highly recommendable.
  • Great tour and tasting of ham and wines at the happy pig farm in Corteconcepcion which has been in the same family for 5 generations.
  • They have a few products that are authentic delicacies. Besides an amazing customer service.
