Museo Mezquita Catedral de Córdoba, Cordoba
(4.8/5 based on 15,000+ reviews on the web)
History meets beauty at Museo Mezquita Catedral de Córdoba, a rare blend of two religions. The massive mosque-turned-cathedral is famed for its "forest" of interior columns, topped with traditional Islamic red and white striped arches. Built in 786 by Moorish settlers, the structure was converted into a Christian church in 1236. Built over the course of nearly 250 years, the structure combines various architectural styles, with decorative elements ranging from elegant to gaudy. Despite the presence of the cathedral, which was added to the middle of the original structure in the 16th century, most of the mosque remains remarkably well preserved. Regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture, the site reminds visitors of the glory and importance Córdoba held in medieval times. • My partner and I went through Cordoba's road to Malaga and decided to see the mosque and Cordoba. It is a very beautiful place full of charm. To visit the mosque is very easy and just had that wait to buy the entry. Inside the mosque, they let you take pictures. Once inside you can see the mix of cultures that exist in it. The place taught me much peace. The mosque is beautiful and it is worth going to see it.

  • Its about a 20 minute walk from the train station. It is signposted so not too bad to reach there. After crossing the walls of the city, you come to the main area of the old city. The outside doors are...  more »
  • The mosque is impressive as little. The only problem the tourists who scurry, are not able to respect holy sites that invite admiration.
