Architectural Building
History meets beauty at Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, a rare blend of two religions. The massive mosque-turned-cathedral is famed for its "forest" of interior columns, topped with traditional Islamic red and white striped arches. Built in 786 by Moorish settlers, the structure was converted into a Christian church in 1236. Built over the course of nearly 250 years, the structure combines various architectural styles, with decorative elements ranging from elegant to gaudy. Despite the presence of the cathedral, which was added to the middle of the original structure in the 16th century, most of the mosque remains remarkably well preserved. Regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture, the site reminds visitors of the glory and importance Córdoba held in medieval times. • Better than Alhambra. Double arches support large structure. A cathedral within a mosque is so unique. A tour gives interesting information on history and construction details. Amazing place. It's a must-see.
  • One of the best caliphate-era architectural sites in Spain, and an architectural wonder in and of itself! The mosque is large enough that you may well wander around for a while saying to yourself, "Isn't there supposed to be a cathedral in here?" (And it's not a *small* cathedral, either.) Personally, I'm inclined to think that the cathedral is a bit of a shame, as there are lots of cathedrals, but few mosques like this one, but it kept the mosque from being torn down, so it's not all bad.
  • No words can describe beauty of the red and white double arches in this beautiful former mosque, its a shame they let the Christians pray but they don't allow the Muslims to pray in there. if you ever go to Cordoba i highly recommend you visit this historical wonder.
  • Beautiful interior blending Muslim And Christian design. Cost for ticket to Mosque-Cathedral is €10 and the tower is €2. Visit during early afternoon for spectacular visuals of the lights shining in through stained glass windows, projecting colors into the interior.
  • Before 9am it is free to visit. It feels more like a mosque than a church to be honest. But hey, I loved the mash up about it! It is a MUST SEE definitely!!! I enjoyed chilling out in the garden.
