Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, Cordoba

4.7
History meets beauty at Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, a rare blend of two religions. The massive mosque-turned-cathedral is famed for its "forest" of interior columns, topped with traditional Islamic red and white striped arches. Built in 786 by Moorish settlers, the structure was converted into a Christian church in 1236. Built over the course of nearly 250 years, the structure combines various architectural styles, with decorative elements ranging from elegant to gaudy. Despite the presence of the cathedral, which was added to the middle of the original structure in the 16th century, most of the mosque remains remarkably well preserved. Regarded as one of the most accomplished monuments of Moorish architecture, the site reminds visitors of the glory and importance Córdoba held in medieval times. • The mosque is a joy, is a beautiful monument that leaves you amazed recommended 100%, but the subject of the audio guide fatal organized, not put numbers where to listen audio you feel disoriented and that can improve enough

  • The mixture of styles Christian and Muslims above all is something beautiful, not Exchange anything. If the trip and time permits it is totally recommended to climb the Minaret and appreciate a panoramic view of the city. Nearby not to accept the romero of the Gypsy, is something very typical of Andalusia.

  • Beautiful place!! It's impressive to see such a mix of architecture and culture together. If you go at 8:30am before the Catholic ceremony you could spend 50 minutes inside for free, after that lines are huge and you are going to pay 10€ for the ticket. Also worthy is to pay the 2€ for going up the bell building, amazing views of the city.
  • When we booked our holiday there were two places on our list of things to see, this and the Alhambra, sadly the Alhambra was booked up, thankfully the trip to Cordoba had room. And I must say I was so happy we did get to see this amazing unique building. If you like architecture and/or culture this is a must visit attraction, believe me you'll love it
  • Awe-inspiring and breath-taking. Be prepared to spend quite a lot of time here (a couple hours) and get the audio tour or book one ( it really is necessary due to the scale and history). You don't need to reserve a ticket, especially if you go before noon. There never seems to be a line really.
  • Wonderful place to see that you don't have to tear down or burn down others construction to show your dominance. Architecturally amazing! A must see in Cordoba
  • history. cultures. traditions. one of the richest and most unique sites in spain. take your time and explore the intricate history and the building of culture upon culture.

Where to stay in Cordoba

To experience the heart of Cordoba's old-world charm, the famous Jewish Quarter, or Judería, offers an array of family-owned pensions and boutique hotels with close proximity to the city's main attractions and lively tapas culture. A number of newer hotels surround the local train and bus stations offering more spacious accomodations, although removed from the city's historical district. Above all, be sure to book a hotel equipped with air conditioning as Cordoba is famous for its scorching tempuratures during the late spring and summer.
